Is the free update tomorrow the Heroes DLC we've seen, or is this something separate? I haven't been keeping up to date on resogun :p

It's seperate. This brings the ship editor, local coop and new trophies for free. The Heroes DLC adds new 2 modes and trophies for $4,99 or $7,99 if you want the Season Pass. DLC goes live June 24th in the US, 25th everywhere else.

Aah gotcha, thanks. That should give me something to do when the soul crushing boredom of flat hunting reaches fatal levels.

Game Director Hidetaka Miyazaki on weapon transformations and exploration in Bloodborne:
"About the theme “exploring the unknown” I spoke about earlier, I believe the concept should be applied to gameplay elements. The tactical factor of the new “active battle” is part of that, but we also want to include unknown elements in various areas of gameplay, for instance in character builds and the strategy the player will use. We’d like players to have fun stumbling their way through the game and finding out those unknown elements.
For example I can explain this by talking about the weapons that can be used together with the gun and that we define “gimmick weapons” . In the CG trailer shown at E3, we introduced the saw-cleaver weapon. That weapon has an unique shape and can also transform, and its features also change depending on the transformation.
Using those different transformations is an integral part of gameplay, and there are even unique attacks with special effects that can be executed only while the weapon is in the middle of a transformation. I think that there will be a lot of room for exploration on how to master those weapons."
Additional details:
1)There are really freaky enemies, an example is big birds forced to stay on the ground which were defined “grounded crow demons” by Nick Suttner.
2)The block/counter mechanic from previous Souls games won’t return with the same relevance, and now combat it’s more based on attack.
3)You can dual wield a lit torch and the main characyer’s saw-cleaver and burn enemies with the torch while you hack at them with the weapon.
4)The saw-cleaver has two different “states.” You can flick it open for additional range, or keep it folded to have a closer range weapon.
5)You can use the shotgun to stagger enemies, and then dash in with the saw-cleaver to finish them.
6)Blood is “out of control.” It sprays everywhere and the character’s trench coat actually gets all stained and shiny with the enemies’ blood as it gets soaked in it.
7) The graphics have been defined “amazing,” especially the environments.
8) The light passing through the fog creates cool ray effects.
9) There are wind effects in the game, interacting with the environment.
