Forums - Gaming - Why i was disappointed by MK8's graphics.

Does DriveClub feature a SINGLE Banana? Not to speak about a SUPER HORN...

So why should I even consider playing DriveClub on a INFERIOR console when I can play PROJECT CARS in ANY resolution AND graphics fidelity on MULTIPLE MONITORS or OCULUS RIFT on a PC?

But you can play Mario Kart 8 ONLY on a Wii U.

This is just another "pixel count" thread. And it will sum up as the other ones: what counts is GAMEPLAY. And Nintendo is king in that.

And how is this even remotely relevant to the topic at hand?

Well, this is one of the more absurd threads I've come across.

You are the only Nintendo fan that I recall stating that Mario Kart 8 is graphically disappointing, and far, far from "many" Nintendo fans suddenly think that art style comes second to graphics. If what you are saying were true, there would be more people like you who compared Mario Kart 8 to titles like Drive Club and then used the comparison's results as an argument for why Nintendo should focus less on art style and more on graphics. Yet here we are, and no such threads can be found while your thread is the only one to ever do this comparison.

A few hypocritical forum users that you've come across won't change this, and is never a good basis to judge an entire fan base on.

Where have i said Nintendo need to focus less on art style and more on graphics? I'm simply disappointing they haven't tried to excel in both. My mention of other members was that i was told i was wrong for believing MK8 wasn't pushing the WiiU at 720p/60fps, yet some of those same users were perfectly accepting that MK8 could now be 1080p/60fps (which resource wise is like running the game twice, contradicting their first statement that i was wrong).

BenVTrigger put it well "A game can be 4k with insane texture quality and still be highly stylized. There is no negative result of higher fidelity graphics."

As shocking as it may sound, some people will value subjective measures of quality over objective measures of quality. Like how some people will prefer Mario Kart because they like kart racers significantly more than driving sims. :O

Ermagerd!!!  MK8 is so much more detailed than Driveclub!!!

I assume this is a joke? :p Anyway, i saw in your other comment you said i was being selective, so go and find the absolute best looking MK8 screenshot you can find (not a promotional art render :p) and i'll find the best DC one i can find ^^ then i can compare the AA, textures etc of each for you :)

lol, I already wasted enough time at work finding those two images.  But that's only marginally worse than the two you posed.  That one from Driveclub is a promotional still, and not something you would ever see in-game.  I surely hope that driveclub is technially more impressive than MK8 given the additional processing power available on PS4, but MK8 is a graphical achievement in its own way.  The lighting, the polished look of the characters, activity going on in the background, the resolution and the speed/framerate is all very impressive.  Good on Nintendo for getting back in the game visually.

Mario Kart is beautiful. The one complaint I have is with the image quality. To be honest its lacking as is all 1st party games on Wii U so far. Its not the end of the world by any means and as I said they do look great but I really wish Wii U had the horsepower to deliver better IQ

Do you mean AI? cause wii u games certainly has that better than most games from other companies.

The DC promotional shot is an in-game screenshot ^^; Same as this gif daredevil just made from the recent trailer: (also, HQ download link to the trailer so you can pause at the car close ups http://www.mediafire.com/download/xycb278ufc8u1du/DC_REANNOUNCE_GM_102_E_1080HQ.rar)

The MK8 picture you showed was an artistic render, not a screenshot :P For future reference, the first is an artistic render, the second is an in-game screenshot (from the same track at about the same angle). I'm sure you can see the obvious difference, hence i assumed the two screens you posted were a joke ^^;

I'd also like to point out that my complaints about the AA, polygon counts and textures are just as valid in the top picture :) Right click and copy url to see them in full size.

Also this pic says a lot of things. While nintendo's main targe market is minor gamers, sony's playstation was always all about grown up gamers. There was a time when it was easy to get excited for mariokart. But I have grown up. So do all of my gamer friends. None of them plays mariokart.

I'm glad I'm not in your group of boring friends. How old are you?

Nearing 40 and me as well as many of my friends of many age ranges all greatly enjoy MK and can't wait to use its tourney features. Ah well, guess it shouldn't be fun because it uses color and cartoon-like action items.

I actually like the graphics and I'm ok with it. In fact, I believe they are damn good.
My real concern is the level design. Already saw a lot of tracks (rainbow road included) and looks plain to me.
