Go Zelda
"Rate the conference"
Let's do that.
I just watched it, unspoiled but not live, and like with Microsoft's, I was underwhelmed. It basically reminded me how much better and how bigger an impact a real presentation has. At least the Digital Event was longer than the feared 30 minutes, but did they really show? Not much, once again. The worst thing is, afterwards I found out they have stuff about a ton of other games on their E3 site. Why wasn't all that at the very least mentioned in the 'big' show?
I do love how Nintendo seems to know perfectly what goes on in the world. They make jokes about everything. They know about the (unfounded) complaints that there's "only Mario" on WiiU and joke about that he's most certainly not there this year. They know we've been asking for Star Fox, and sadly shot down that hope, pretty much literally. They even know about something as new as Luigi's Death Stare, which made a cool little cameo.
Anyway to me, the whole thing felt rushed and unbalanced. They were going all over the place and some stuff got too much screen-time while other stuff got too little. Zelda got too little. Way too little. They basically only showed a screenshot that was moving. They only showed Link standing around in Hyrule Field. And oh, a twenty second clip of him running away from something. I think it looked good though, and what Aonuma said about the game seemed promising. The big ending though, was like last year, just a Smash character, after they already talked about it plenty at the start of the show. Fantastic.
Outside the conference there's the treehouse, which I agree is actually a good idea. I watched about an hour while they demoed Mario Maker, which seems like fun and could actually be the thing that interested me the most out this whole E3. The Smash tournament seems like a succes as well.
I said I thought Microsoft was only a 5/10 and I'd say Sony was the winner of the conferences if Nintendo didn't have the extra stuff, but not because they themselves did so well with like a 7/10. Nintendo's conference gets a 6.5/10 from me.
