I would suggest starting with FFX/X-2, and then purchasing the others. Each title is different so you really have to decide for yourself.


I was also one of the few who love FF8.  It gets so much hate.  I don't like XIII though.

Get ffxhd, ignore the 13 games. Best to just pretend 13 and its sequels never existed. I would also recommend getting 7 and 9 on psn. You can get 8 too... But its not as good as 7 and 9...

Final Fantasy X HD 100%. It's actually a great entry point to the series. And a fantastic game all-around.

Personally, I didn't like XIII, and generally don't like the sequels to any FF game much. I'm a big FF fan and X is one of the best.

The PS3 isn't the best place to start with the Final Fantasy series (the best gaming franchise out there IMO)
i like most of them and there is alot. But to answer your question, definitely start with final fantasy X/X-2HD they,re a more accurate representation of the series. The XIII trilogy took a slightly different take and while i personally loved them, they also had a lot of hate (most of which i believe was people who hadn't even played it or gave it a chance and just jumped on the hate bandwagon)
If you have a vita you can download final fantasy 7 which is one of the best in the series, its very old so don't expect stunning visuals but you get used to them.
you can also get final fantasy 1-5 on IOS but i hate touch screen controls and i find it ruins the experience.

FFX but not X-2 and the rest can skip, reason because only FFX have more characters...

If you like real turn based combat then start with X then move onto XIII.
You have people hating on XIII because it's linear and bad voice acting but X is worst when it comes to these
If you value gameplay over anything else then get Lightning Returns. It's more challenging, fast paced and has amazing customization.

Just buy the games and form your own opinions

 

Edit: XIII combat is great if you don't use auto-battle. Really, if you don't like it then don't use it.

Out of all the games you listed, I would recommend Final Fantasy X! It's not one of my favorite FF games, but it can be pretty enjoyable!
