Forums - Nintendo - Smash Bros is Coming to Wii U in 2014

This tournament is a brilliant idea. Can't say that for the other decisions Nintendo has made for this E3.

I feel like you don't really know that much about Nintendo if you can't think of any games besides Mario and Smash Bros that they can release.

Zelda isn't out yet, and there's still Metroid, and there are a few games they announced already that aren't out yet.  While these may not all be as big as Mario Kart or Smash Bros, it's weird to EXPECT there to be titles that keep 1-upping the next.

System seller blockbusters. Zelda sure, I concede that. Metroid is niche however.

Just want to point out Metroid Prime.  I'm referring to a game like this.  While it may not be as popular outside the United States, it nonetheless has the potential to move more units.

Also, you don't need system seller blockbusters to keep a system from flopping.  The way you worded it makes it seem like there would be a drought of nothing but games that don't matter.  Nintendo have plenty of IPs they can use to try and keep up the momentum (at least better than they have the first year of the Wii U).  There could end up being a Pokemon game on the Wii U (that Pokken Fighters that the Pokemon Company trademarked).

Don't need to quote me on Metroid Prime. That was my favourite game of the Gamecube, beat it on hard with 100% more times then I can remember. That said, that was a long time ago, the first entry (when the concept of 3D metroid was mind blowing), and Metroid Prime today would be even more niche given WiiU sales. It wasn't a mass market game. Speculating on spinoff Pokemon games doesn't do anybody any good. Also while Nintendo has tons of IPs, I fear they may end up like Pikmin 3, great game, great to brag about on forums, but have no lasting impact on hardware sales.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Oh another Super Smash Bros game... meh. I rather have a new Playstation All Stars game.

Zelda, X, a game yet to be announced, maybe even third party exclusive...

You expect them to release Zelda this holiday season? like for example Zelda in november and Smash in december?

yes. but regardless, nintendo always announces games at E3 that will be released in the same year. smash and X were announced a long time ago. there should be at least another 2 big announcements that will release in november/december.

They won't release a big game near from another one.

They released the Wonderful 101 and Wind Waker HD in the same month. Rayman Legends released that same month too. Pikmin 3 only another month earlier.

Whether or not it's a good idea to space out releases can be put into question. But since they've released several key titles within only a handful of weeks of eachother very recently, there's pretty good reason to believe they'll do it again.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Except it's not a speculation on whether or not it exists given the trademark is very real.

That and Metroid Prime was on the Gamecube.  I also didn't say it had to be Metroid Prime, I am simply pointing out the potential of the series given how well the original Metroid Prime did (especially given the sales of the system it was on).

Also, Pikmin 3 is one of Nintendo's smaller IP's.   And even then, if Nintendo ends up releasing many of them in succession, they will collectively have a lasting impact on hardware sales.

Ahahahahaha

A niche game, a port, a multiplatform? Are you implying those are at the same level of 3D Mario/Zelda?

i didnt know there was speculation that it was going to 2015. it seems to be because they said winter at one point? if so thats weird wording. why not say "this holiday season"

They assumed everyone had a modicum of common sense. Stupid of them, I know.

If Smash continues to sell well, you probably will.

Winter is just synonymous with "holiday". November or December. Likely around the same week that 3D World launched last year in order to get in before Black Friday in the States, which is crucial for that market.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Maybe cominh in Japan in 2014... and on February in Europe and USA.

TW101 and Rayman Legends are of good enough quality to be in the same league as Mario and Zelda. May not pull the same commercial success as Mario and Zelda, but that doesn't make them deserving to be positioned that way.

And while it's a Zelda remake, it's a Zelda....
