Forums - Gaming - The Last of Us Lead Character Artist Leaves Naughty Dog

Naughty Dog has lost yet another member of its staff, this time in the shape of lead character artist on The Last of Us, Michael Knowland.

The news comes courtesy of Superannuation, who cites Knowland's LinkedIn profile as the source of the information. He'd been with Naughty Dog for more than three years, with two of those focused on The Last of Us. Prior to this, he worked at Elite: Dangerous studio Frontier Developments.

He's the latest in a number of high profile departure from the studio. Uncharted creative director Amy Hennig left Naughty Dog earlier this year, though has since joined Visceral Games to work on its unannounced Star Wars project. This was followed by the news Justin Richmond, who was working on Uncharted PS4 as game director, also left the studio, in his case to take up a position at League of Legends dev Riot. Art director Nate Wells announced his departure to join Unfinished Swan studio Giant Sparrow last week.

We don't know what Knowland's future holds just yet, though it's not thought he was involved in Uncharted 4. Perhaps with work complete on The Last of Us and the prospect of starting work on a new project he simply fancied a change.

Regardless, as soon as we know anything more regarding Knowland or Naughty Dog, we'll let you know.

Not sure if this was posted but after posting the article the other week about someone leaving Naughty dog I figured I might as well post this as well. And this is NOT a DOOM thread as so many here seem to think whenever someone posts a news article lol. If these were just your regular Joe coffe guys/gals leaving then it would not bother me but that's not the case. As  Sony fan, a ND fan and a gaming fan in general I just have to be curious as to what is going on at ND. As I said before though could be something but then again it could be nothing. Still it is interesting none the less....what do you think VG community?

Well, it won't affect Uncharted 4, and I really don't think it's that much of a big deal for us players, or even for Naughty Dog.

But, I also think it means there won't be a TLOU sequel. A few months ago Neil Bruckman said they were brainstorming in order to decide what their next project would be. He also said it was 50% chance it would be TLOU 2.

But since all the departures are people who worked on TLOU, I'm almost certain it will be a new IP, and that TLOU will be a standalone game.

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

I'm so tired of ppl making articles about each and every single employee leaving from this 250ppl studio. God ND gets WAY to much attention.

i feel like people are really rooting for naughty dog to fall apart.

In this industry people join and leave companies all the time... I don't know why some people keep targeting Naughty Dog and act like this is unsual pratice.

Wow....ummmmm....some of the comments are exactly why I posted what I did lol. Always taken as "doom" instead of people curious as to what is going on? Me personally I was and am curious. We know people move in the industry ALL the time but there has been quite a bit of it going on recently at ND and these don't seem to be just the coffe people as I stated....hence the reason so many articles are being made about them. It is curious....does it mean "doom" of course not but does that mean we can't post and discuss it as well? Some posters here are so negative smh.....

Everything isn't about doom folks just more about what's going on in the industry and us as gamers discussing it....or are we to good for that now....?

Calling it now, Naughty Dog may become the next Rareware, except, they aren't being sold.
