Forums - Gaming - Have Sucker Punch Invented A New Art Form?

Cus here's TL:DR version of what you just wrote;
"Shut up guys, this about MY definition of art, and I say this has never been done before!!!!"

Do yourself a favor and stop. You're making yourself look a fool

I'm asking if it has and up until now only one person has actually put a compelling case forward that I'm wrong. And the bolded is a gross exaggeration of what I'm saying. I could be wrong (I don't fear being wrong) but like I said, people clearly don't understand the difference between a photograph and a screenshot  which is why they keep just posting screenshots. And arguing it wasn't technically possible before just strengthens by argument. If it wasn't technically possible before then obviously it hasn't been done before, no? But that's not to say I'm right, that's just pointing out the flaw in the technical argument.

Pretty much this. Especially harping on realism so much when half the screens posted are of some dude flying through the air or shooting smoke or lights out of his hands. I mean even if you want to talk about realistic graphics, GT has been doing this for years, as have many PC games. Did Sucker Punch improve upon what already existed by offering great graphics? Sure. But create a "new art form"? lol no.

Does this look like real life? No. Is it a beautiful photograph, inspired by real life photography technique? Yes. Can it say something about the person who took it? Definitely. But apparently it's "just a screen shot" because the graphics aren't super realistic.

It's hard to understand what you are on about if you said in your second post that it's not about graphics

dat shoe!, I think nobody realizes but Sucker Punch just owned everyone and I mean everyone right now in terms of graphics.

Im not talking graphics here. Each of those photos expresses something that's unique to the eye of the person who took it. That's frigin' art!

but everything you argue about right now is that the graphics make the difference between pictures shot in Infamous to let it look "photorealistic" or something like pictures you could take in other games before.

So, if the main reason that you think Infamous has a photo mode which allows stuff games like Halo 4 didn't allow is simply the graphics of a new gen game then don't try to tell us that it's not about graphics and please not that Sucker Punch "invented" anyting since everything they did was implementing a photo mode other games already had just in a game with better graphics from 2014. Or otherwise something like the picture in the following links did already what makes it "as if a real photographer would take photos to tell us something about him"

Not that you see shots from GT7 or Halo 5 in a year ot two and tell us that they got that idea from Sucker Punch if these will have a similar graphics quality to reach this level of photorealism (I think GT has already)

I think if you would just say that Ifamous has in your opinion the best graphics of all games with a "free cam photo mode" I think many more would agree with you. Hard to deny that the shots you posted don't have the best and most realistic graphics of all the games mentioned in this thread.

These photos are truly stunning.

I think what he's trying to say is that, the aspects you highlighted (bold: freely explorable world, photorealistic graphics and photo mode) is what would be the springboard for a new type of art: virtual photography.

This type of art is as much about the graphics (by virtue of its definition of photography) and as much not about the graphics (it's not about taking a screenshot). In that sense, the importance of placement, lighting, angles, framing makes it not about the graphics.

So as much as you try to tell him "don't say it's not about the graphics", he can't, and it's really up to you to understand what he means by that, after all the effort he put so far.

The reason why to him the Wind Waker and Halo examples don't fit the definition is by virtue of the lack of photorealism. In that sense it's about the graphics. But as of that entry point, it's no longer about the graphics (aka taking a screenshot), but about the expression through a picture of the virtual world.

Oh my God man, I could kiss you!

The more I just slow down and look at the world Sucker Punch made, the more I realize that PC developers have been squandering the power at their disposal.
