Forums - Gaming - All Day 1 DLC is a BIG F*** You To Us Gamers, Agree or Disagree? (Releasing A Game Thats Incomplete for Extra $$)

Maybe. But would be a bigger fuck you to raise the standard price tag for a AAA game along inflation, isn't it?

I agree that publishers are greedy money hungry companies (like 99% of them), but let's not whine for everything we don't like. It could be much worse.

Oh and if you want to say FURB just fuck em with your wallet and not on forums, ok?

Here's the deal. Back in the day, when consoles weren't connected to the internet, companies COULDN'T chop up a game and sell it for more than whatever retail was. Now that they can, they are. It's not like they are getting more greedy. It's just that they have new ways to BE greedy and they're taking advantage of it.

If people don't like it, find a new hobby or play indie only. That's my opinion.

Also, back in the day the games were much, MUCH shorter. You could literally beat some of them in less than an hour. Without any cheats or anything. There was no way to save your progress or similar check points. The difficulty made games seems longer than they were. Do you think that in terms of content we don't get more now even without the dlc? From my experience, it sure seems to be the case.

Do we get more than the NES days? Sure. But the PS2 ear? No way. Games like, say, Mortal Kombat? Back on the PS2, they let you unlock rosters. Now? You have to buy those fighters etc. Games were much more packed 10 years ago then they are now...and ten bucks cheaper to boot lol

Good point. I forgot about the ps2 era. I didn't game that much back then, so I'm not sure whether overall things were better, but I assume they were. The difference now is that in order to create AAA games, the development cycle is much longer if a company wants to create good graphics. If you go to the comment section of the latest spiderman game, you'll see that everyone is bashing it for its non spectacular graphics. So, the cost of production must have risen after the ps2 era, hence several studios closing after  a game or two failing to sell well. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think since the HD era, games cost more, but don't necessarily sell more, so the developers have to make more money from each game somehow. Special editions help and so does DLC.

disagree.

define what a "complete" game is please.

Well it'll be hard to word "Complete" for a game, but for DLC (especially Day 1) means it could of been apart of the game, instead being sold as extra profits.

Ex: Lets say SSB had DLC day 1 with an extra 3 characters. That was already ready to be in the game but now instead of $60 for a game i have to spend $70 for a game if i want the full experience now??? Thats kinda a sneaky way to charge a game more money!

exactly, there is no definition.

for $60 they "could have" included the day 1 DLC.   ...and they "could have" included all DLC.     ...and they "could have" included access to all content ever released in that franchise.   ...and they "could have" included all works that developer ever makes from not until eternity.

so let's look at smash brothers. in smash bros brawl there were 35 characters.  in smash bros wiiU there are already 29 characters officially announced and a rumored screenshot that shows 39 characters in the final roster.  that 4 additional character for the last "complete game".  i guess that means SSBwiiU is 111% of a game.   so now you're going to tell me that is 3 more characters are availible day 1 you are going to be mad about it?   ...you should like a bitch.  a whiny, entitled, fucking bitch.

games were $50 in 1986.  if games simply kept up with inflation you'd be paying $107 per game today.

so do me a favor.  stop complaining and act like a real consumer.  look at the product offered for the price and buy the products worth it to you.   'cause this blanket rule complaining is bullshit.  games are a fucking steal of a way to entertain yourself these days.

I don't get why everyone thinks that just because it's day 1 dlc that's it's akin to paying more for the full game. I don't necessarily think all day one DLC should have been part of the game.

But I do agree that it does happen sometimes... perfect example is mass effect 3 from ashes dlc. That dlc is a very crucial part of the story, it's a Prothean they find for christ's sake. That dlc definitely feels like it should have been a part of the game from the get go.

LMAO *Applause

You shouldnt talk about SSB since you obviously dont kno wat your talking about. No point in arguing about it since your statement suggest that your knowledge on the game is very little, Ex: Pointing out the # of characters and all current final roster rumor's are false. (Well You dont follow pokemon or SSB cuz if you did you kno they have one of the most photoshop/rumors/etc of all time)

As for your last remark, Lets say im a develop. I make a game and when im done i decide out of my 20 multiplayer maps and 30 characters to hold back lets say 4 maps/6characters in on disc DLC or Day 1 DLC and charge an extra $10.... That means i really (the developer) want to charge $70 for the full experience instead of $60 for content taking out.

One of your last remark is funny though, why all the hate? I had an opinion, many agree but i guess we are all (who agreed) in your words ".you should like a bitch.  a whiny, entitled, fucking bitch."  (your words not mine) post

If you read the rest of the thread, you'll see that he was unaware of that and when we pointed that out to him, he changed his opinion over PSASBR, so props to him as far as I'm concerned.

I failed, i'll admit. If i change my OP it be wrong cuz we should all take responsibility for our failures lol! Beside if i take it off, people will point it out and get on me for it :p

Depends on the game. Some games have got to make extra money to be profitable because they will not sell greatly.

I generally agree with the initial post- It can be good or bad- As critical as I have been of Nintendo s effort on the Wii U (I only own a Wii U and 3DS), they did a god job of making it clear that the initial MArio Golf game was coming w the same amount of courses and content as previous Mario golf games that did not have DLC- that the optional DLC they are offering is extra content for those who want it-

Due to the game being golf- you can get an idea of much if any of the DLC is "additional" content Vs content that should have come w the retail release using the number of corses as a general metric- But there ar many other types of games were it is difficult to judge if the DLC is "extra" content or if it is content striped from the initial release-

Additionally, a dev cold have day 1 DLC ready to go but keep it secret for a couple months before announcing it but is that really any different day 1 DLC

IMO there is some DLC that is obviously a cash grab at the expense of the consumer and original game and some that seems to truly add value - but for everything in between the obvious it is up to the consumer to make that judgment and let the market decide- hopefully the cash grabs will not be successful long term and the vale adds will be successful

As much as Nintendo has done wrong w the Wii U and beyond- they seem to be very careful about the games they release and seem to have maintained a long term outlook when it comes to the games they develop- I wish I could say the same about their operations and decisions otherwise

Man, what was Nintendo thinking with Mario Golf DLC? Ok, the game retails at 29.99, but it still sucks.
