Yes, I used to say it would not be a hit. I just never thought the sales would be this abysmal. I could hardly be more pleased. The sooner Ninty goes third party only the better for all gamers.

You always make me laugh. Keep the posts like these comming.

OT: I expected the Wii U to be majorly down from the Wii, although I didn't expect such pathetic sales as this. I was thinking it would finish off around or a little above what the N64 did.

To be honest... i didnt. My opinion changed when i saw the atitude 3rd parties were having towards it and how they undermined the Wii U in terms of new engines.
At that point, it was obvious they werent gonna let it do well regardless. The system of PS+Xbox is just too profitable to let go after last gen. The only thing that can replace it is a return to PS domination like the PS2 did.

Not originally I thought it would sell OK - not Wii like, but 50k lifetime. Now I think ~20k lifetime, maybe same or less than GC is my current estimate.

50k lifetime? 20k lifetime? Wut

What's the question?  20k still seems too high or what?

Wii U sells more than that every week.

20k = 20'000, 50k = 50'000. You are being mighty harsh there.

My 8th gen collection

I thought it'd be the "next Wii" originally. It had all the things going for it: riding the back of the Wii's success, better graphics, a gimmick, and supposedly 3rd party support, plus it was cheap and I knew it'd be cheaper than the next Sony/M$ console...
Then I saw the gamepad... (only heard rumors before) and I was like.. is that an add on or a real console? A handheld maybe? I looked everywhere (in articles) and everyone seemed confused about what the "Wii U" was. Nintendo didnt really rush to clarify either, didnt know till a week later to have confirmation that it was indeed, a new console. Though we never saw the actual system till later.
I was somewhat hopeful still, but after an abysmal commercial run, terrible game droughts with delays, and 3rd parties leaving left and right, I was like: "Well then... I wasnt expecting that"

I called it. I would argue with people about the value the WiiU gamepad would bring. I remember many thinking that it would be big hit due to the tablet market being so big. I knew that it was no tablet and was not innovative enough to entice casuals.

to be fair. I think people expected it to be much closer to a tablet than a controller. We were wrong as hell.

I think it's the controller- it feels like a single player console. Only allowing 1 tablet at a time was just a horrible decision. I have a feeling they won't be getting the most out of Mario Kart/SSB sales. I mean it has two huge Mario titles already, once upon a time that would have been enough to carry a console. I think it fell below 30k last week which is appalling, and this is coming from a lifelong Ninty fan, who won't be buying a PS4/Xbox this gen.

Now that's a signature!

When I first heard about it, I thought it would sell ok probably. I didn't see the appeal. But it makes sense why it would sell poorly.

I thought it was going to dominate before the PS4 or XBO were officially revealed. It shows anything can change quickly. I was expecting a copy of last gen except Microsoft leaving Sony in the dust...

Now, I see why Wii U hasn't done well.

I still believe it'll outsell the GC with American sales alone.
