I could see a cheaper gamepad, and more internal space. Probably both, as more storage wouldn't be too expensive. More storage and cheaper price would make for a much easier sell, and having the gamepad be smaller would certainly appease some people who thought it was big and clumsy. I'm sure they could shrink it a bit without compromising the screen space too much, and maybe even come up with a better layout. E3 would be an ideal time to announce it.

Broadband and online wasn't as important back then. Making a built in modem for the GC would have added needlessly to its price.
