We are 6 months into this cycle and people are already calling XB1 doomed. Even in the States, it`s too early to see how things will pan out. |
It's not really $500 anymore though is it. It's $450 with a free game.

why are we bringing up the 70 countries in the NPD thread,it is the USA thread, home territory,if the Xbox division of microsoft were able to support their online service in more than 13 countries at launch then i'm assuming they would have,so as to sell more consoles
surprised titanfall didn't push the console win but both consoles selling well, what happened to that bloke saying consoles were dying off after the nintendo Wii in the USA,gone quiet lately
360 doing well with titanfall,be nice to know what it sold and infamous did a steady job

I smell like the dark forest of Dwemereth in the morning mist
fanboy til i'm bankrupt

Divide by the number of days in the month and use a daily rate. 28 is 4 weeks but 31 is less than 5 weeks. Yes Titanfall helped. But MS needs a more agressive / permanent price cut. |
NPD months don't align directly with calendar months. February was four full weeks. March was five full weeks.
Why Sony disclaim their WW total sales numbers but not NPDs? They make the VGChartz work easier in one point and harder on another (the reverse is the same for Microsoft).
But looking on the numbers, how PS4 atached rate could that lower for a cheaper hardware?

I was told that in a recent post.

Microsoft is not sony they dont have the track record with studios/indy support in terms of titles. Nor do they have the fanbase built up to take this kind of a hit like sony did last gen and recover from it. Also sony could justify the price of the ps3 cause of blu ray, microsoft can not do the same cause of kinect, and trust me if sony launched the ps3 and was losing head to head to the 360 in europe and japan the way xbox is losing america sony fans would have been rightfully just as panicked.
Holy smokes PS4>X1 in March...When MS has they're biggest exclusive out. Hot damn.

The first MS fans had to endure the success of PS2, so it`s nothing new to them.
I´m not sure if MS can or cannot justify the price tag. From a manufacturing point of view, the price might be just about right. From a commercial point of view the only reason i`d say no, is because the basic premise of Kinect was already sold on XB360. From the angle, the new Kinect isn`t enough reason ot buy a 500$ console.
It`s a tough call. Personally, i never believed the new Kinect would make the same impact.
The thing is XB360 wasn`t doing that well in Europe as XB1 is doing, now, in the US. They are on par, but up there in sales numbers, not down there.
That`s why i don`t understand the doom comments. I understand that MS might be worried that it will be a tougher fight they originally thought, but there`s no reason to panic. Selling 311K is more than healthy for the Xbox business in the US.

Plus, it's not like the One was $500 for the entire sales period. It was actually $450 for about half of it. So yea, price has nothing to do with this, since the PS4 plus game is $10 more than the One. $70 more if you want to throw in the camera, not that I think that's necessary.
To get this whole X1 doom thread of the tracks a little, look at this:
Wii's first NPD March (5 weeks as well): 259 000
That makes the whole thing look a whole lot better doesn't it?
And just for shits and giggles the PS2s first NPD March: 547 000
