Will happily pay £45 for a game I want day one (which is pretty much every game I buy) but the launch XB1 prices (£55 for Zoo Tycoon) was OTT.

i usually dont get games in launch, so i get games kind of cheap.
im ok with prices.
I can't stand Americans, Canadians, the British, etc. complaining about the prices of games. When you take a look at how much you earn in comparison to these prices, you almost get the games for free. Wonder what you'd say if you had to pay for a game the same % of your monthly earnings as people in poorer countries have to pay. $200-300 for a game anyone? I'd gladly pay $60 for a game if I earned as much as you do.
I stopped buying games day 1 because of DLCs. They are crazy now! There is the Mass Effect Trilogy on sale on PSN now at almost 20 Euro - a very cool price! But if I wanted the DLCs to get the full story (and I do), I'd have to pay 4 times more just for the DLCs! Ridiculous - so I'm not buying. The same goes for Dragon Age and Dead Space 3. If EA doesn't release a GotY with all DLCs after so many years or at least offer a reasonable season pass for all DLCs, they won't be getting any of my money.
At this point I'm only buying GotY editions or games that I know won't be getting DLCs (eg. FFX/X2 HD for Vita).
Moreover, the main reason I'm not buying PS4 is the price of games. They are just ridiculously expensive and there is no way in hell I'm paying that much for a game. The prices went up by 15 Euro in Poland in comparison to PS3 games! Now I'm thinking about getting a good gaming rig for about 600-700 Euro instead of the PS4 and saving a crapload of money thanks to Steam. I'd also be enjoying better graphics.
Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!
My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/
My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.
I'm ok with 3ds and Wii U prices because it's quality product, just not for anything else.
| Shadow1980 said: Well, considering this: I don't think games cost that much per se. They're certainly easier on the wallet than they were back in the late 90s when I first started buying my own games. Of course, even today $60 is a decent sum of money, and I'm not willing to buy every game brand new at full price, so for ones that I'm less sure about and don't consider must-buys, I'll wait until I can get it for cheaper. |
I'll come up with something better eventually...
I spend between £40-£50 on games cause I buy all the ones I like on day one
I'll spend extra money on high-end collectors' editions for Japanese RPGs and buy those day one. I generally won't spend more than $20 for anything made by UbiActiEA, and that's if I'm feeling generous. I don't think every game needs to be 60 bucks to begin with, especially in such a competitive market, but I do feel that most games are fairly priced overall. I'm used to a $60 price point from the NES days when most of the games I wanted specifically cost that much even then.
Another thing: I will generally not buy games that I know are going to be DLC-heavy until the inevitable GOTY edition comes out that has the extra content included. I enjoyed Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but it's almost not worth buying those games day one.
Im ok with paying if the game feels worth full price.
But lets say Mario Bros U. its 60$ new right now at gamestop. and that just feels like a complete rip off.
but as donkey kong was 50$ new now down to 40$ and it feels way worth every penny even at $50.
