Such a close race for me. I had to refer to my trusty Top 50 to help me crown a winner. What I've ended up with is 10 titles from Gen 4 and 11 titles from Gen 5. That would put the 5th generation on top but my 4th generation titles are generally higher than those of the 5th gen so I'm gonna give it to the 4th generation.

Signature goes here!

Clearly the 5th because games like Panzer Dragoon, Super Mario 64 and Final Fantasy VII.

4th
I spent the 5th gen on pc. Didn't get back into consoles until 2003

5th

it had resident evil, metal gear solid, silent hill, tomb raider tekken 3 etc

Not the easiest of choices, but 5th. Crash, Tekken, MGS, and all the SHMUPs, platformers, and JRPG's... so many damn games.

I go with the 4th generation. Not because I think there were a lot more better games or so. It's because I think with huge success of the Playstation there were more developers who wanted to make money with this success. So there were maybe more better games but I think there were more worse games, too. So as I said I go with the 4th gen but I grew with a SNES and after that I owned a PS2. So I am not that objective.

I don't hate Microsoft, I don't hate PC,
I don't prefer Sony, I don't prefer Nintendo.
...Ok, I love Nintendo but this is something about tolerance, ok?

I'm a gamer with one of the greatest hobbies and I want to share this greatness with everyone.

This is really tough. I think the fifth gen had a larger number of great games, but the fourth gen's great games were, in general, better than their counterparts in the 5th.

I guess I'll give it to the fifth, since almost all parties involved turned out gems: Ocarina and Mario 64 on N64, Tomb Raider and Metal Gear Solid on PS1, Panzer Dragoon and NiGHTS on Saturn, StarCraft and Half-Life on PC, etc.

4th generation and it is not even close. It was the apex of grand 2D game design and is home to some of the greatest games of all time, and they have aged well.

The 5th generation was a dark age of largely ugly polygonal games and figuring out controls. Successive generations show major technical improvements making this the worst aged generation since the Atari 2600.

Simply put I am content to replay Chrono Trigger or Mega Man X anytime, while I really want remakes of PS1 games to update graphics, cameras and controls as find it hard to play even games I did enjoy back then such as Metal Gear Solid.

Maybe I'm too young, but for me its 5th gen no contest. N64 and Playstation were the perfect combo and I bet it will never be surpassed again.
