Debates are only interesting with open minded people. I don't think you're gonna get that here, people will know what side they are on from the beginning and nothing is going to change their mind.

I think it might work better if you recruit two (or more) people before the fact, ask each to write 500 words in support of opposing views, and then create a thread. Afterward, members can post about which argument was more convincing and push the debate forward.

BULLSHIT.
Some people thought 360 was better and now think PS4 is better. That disproves your statement. I really dislike how we can't say something is better without being biased anymore.
Sometimes one thing is better than another.

I should've said a neutral with rational thinking abilities. The moment you decide something based on personal preferences you stop being neutral.
The only rational reason I can currently think of of choosing one console over the other is not having the money to buy the other. But that's not enough of an argument for a complex product like a console. Console choice comes down to 99% personal preference and experience. You can't defend personal preferences in a debate.
But for the sake of argument I would totally like to hear your neutral arguments about which console is better and why.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

People can participate. They can give their opinions of the ongoing debate as it unfolds.
