Tough call. Most of them (Contact, FF3DS, Magical Starsign, etc.) are fun at times and frustrating at others, but never enough of one or the other to give them favor or disfavor. About the only one that's managed to be fun considerably more often than it is annoying is Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow.

I quite enjoyed DQM but it really just made me want a real Dragon Quest game.

The familiarity is comforting!
You attack metal king slime!
Miss! Metal King Slime takes no damage. Are you surprised? Really? You've never played a dragon quest game then. Don't be silly. Even if you do manage to scratch it up to the 16 or so HP it needs to die, it'll run right after you do 8 damage.
