Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One will Double Performance with DirectX12

And people keep asking when the talk of power and resolution difference will end. Easy answer. The same time Xbox fans stop seeing this stuff (whatever the source may be) and actually believing it and spreading it around. Sorry, but software is not going to change hardware. In the end, the Xbox will always be ~1.3 Tflops and have slower RAM, while the PS4 will be ~1.85 Tflops and have faster RAM. The only way anyone could actually believe this is if both systems have God awful dev kits and are nowhere near showing their true potential. Oh, and for some reason Sony won't improve theirs, while MS are the gods of software and have improved it 2 fold within a few months.

This is just so funny. Microsoft CLAIMS that DirectX 12 could increase performance by 2-4 times and Xbox fans rejoice. Keep in mind that OpenGL has claimed a 9-15 performance increase while it is already 1.3x faster than DirectX, and PS4 used OpenGL.

At the end of the day everyone should be happy, but let's not pretend a software update will ever make up for a HARDWARE issue...

One of my new favorite things is how Sucker Punch just gave a seminar on the programming they did for Second Son where they talked about how useful "Tiled Resources" were.

Wait.  Weren't tiled resources gonna help the Xbox One meet the PS4?!?!?

- xbox one released in november 2013

- in 2014 dx12 kicks in , console becames 2 times more powerfull, too damn powerfull ...

- in the start of 2015 cloud power is in full potential on the consoles , xbox one gets much more powerfull and something start hapening that day, millions off xbones together by the power of the cloud.

- In 2016 a new age started, xbones around the world created one entity , people start seeing when they play their consoles one word blinking in the right corner of the screen. SKYNET

skynet became one self-aware artificial intelligence system , this entity controls every machine conected to the internet now.

2017 starts the rise of the machines , human race is doomed, only a few selected humans are left alone , machines let them leave in peace in one place called FANTASY land and selected one human leader to rule them, is name... MisterXmedia .

WE ARE DOOMED

You forgot the nanomachines great post.

All these threads need to be immediately locked. The idea that software can boost fixed hardware by double is impossible. They say the same thing about DirectX on PC but DX9 still has better performance than any of the newer ones....

To be fair the Tiled Resouces is a hardware feature already presents in almost every GCN GPU... MS is just adding this feature to easy use via DirextX but you can directly access the GPU and use it... DirectX make that easy because you don't need to code everything... just call a few functions.

Unless you fucked the software from beggining...

If the software was that bad the XBOne would not have been able to display the graphics it has so far. These threads are just nonsense and should be locked.

I agree...

I believe they could boost performance by 5-10% because lord knows there is room to make DirectX more efficient but these 50%-100% boosts are just nonsense lol.

What really gets me is I keep hearing "graphics and resolution do not matter" and then I see articles like this that if true would boost resolution.
