If professional Poker is a sport then Shouldn't eSports be considered a sport?

You do know that poker is refered as sport because gambling is such a bad word to use. It is illegal for you to play at home, isn't it?

After huge debates, they decided to call it that. But no , poker isn't a sport.

......I apologize before hand but who decided what wasn't a sport and what is. You might not consider it one but others do.

There are obective stuffs that it needs to have to be called a sport or a game. The ones that want poker to be cheap and unregulated will call it a sport, the ones that want to tax and regulate it will call it a game. It's all about interests in poker.

Do you think gamers should be able to  enroll in a University as a student athlete?

The only question coming to my mind is: What difference does it make, in practice?

I mean, I'd also be generally fine if some guy enrolled in a University as a woman, a chicken or a cheeseburger, if that's what he considers himself and it doesn't make any actual difference anyway.

If, however, it's because there are certain advantages related to enrolling as a woman, chicken, cheeseburger or whatever, I might be against them enrolling as that, I might protest "Hey, you're not a cheeseburger!"

they think it's easy and they're lazy or whatever but I don't think the general public knows how hard it really is to become a pro. These pros are practicing every day, the strategy and stamina involved is crazy. Sure it's not what we think of traditionally as a athlete, but I do think it's something we should consider.

Almost the same can be said about musicians. Should we consider them athletes too? and if so: Why? What's the point?!?

They're getting the full treatment as a tradition athlete would, usually people have something to say about that.

And are musicians in competition? Not really outside a few instances, I definitely agree with the term "sportsman" that others have used in this thread to call pro gamers.

Lmao, no. An athlete is someone who is shown to have physical athletic prowess. You're pushing the limits of your body, not your mind. Call it something else. Pro Gamers deserve respect, but the aren't athletes. It's not about how challenging it is or how much practice you need.

Thread should have ended here.

You know it's not a real VGC discussion thread unless it gets derailed by arguing semantics and throwing out logical fallacies.

And thank god it'll never change :P

Squeezol's Fanclub Member? is that how it works?

Why can't I hold all these no gaemz?

Always looking to improve my awful drawings ;_;

No, I'm not going to disrespect pro gamers, but they are no more "athletes" than professional poker players. For instance, I listen to a podcast called Nerd Poker where some comedians record themselves playing Dungeons and Dragons, if the barometer for "athletes" is "an audience watches/listens to them" I suppose they'd be athletes as well?

You'd think I'd have learned after all this time .

Yeah, I can see it already, training involves sitting on your ass and clicking or pressing a button. Not very athletic so by definition that person is NOT an athlete.

This guy is an athlete if so.....

I think it is challenging and obviously involves talent but i also dont think it should be considered athletics. An athlete by definition is somebody who can compete at a physical level. Games are more of something that you compete at in a mental level rather than physically
