I wouldn't say it's a system seller though.

Watch the % by which Wii U hardware rises the week it comes out. ;)

I don't know ... I'd be willing to bet that watch dogs might be able to take away some steam from the MK8 since it's literally releasing just a day before it.

What don't you know? Whether or not Mario Kart 8 is a system seller? Regardless, I'll be proving that it is come May 30th!

@Bold Good question ...

MK8 will be a system seller but to what effect if watch dogs is close to it ? I'd be willing to say that watch dogs might marginally water down MK8's system selling capabilities ...

Or maybe it will be the other way around!

After checking out wikipedia again your right about watch dogs being 3 days earlier but as far as being not pitched to an identical demographic, your right about that too but most gamers are actually adults while having tons of common games so their more similar than not. Economics would also tell us that these games are going to be pitted against each other because they're both high profile AAA games released in a similar time frame trying to fight for break even in this industry.

Personally, I'm confident Watch Dogs won't hamstring MK8's sales.

We'll see about that ...

Actually we wont, as there's no way to truely tell whether one game hindered the other or not!

How about a bet ?

If the WII U hits atleast 430K in the week MK 8 launches then you win and if not you lose.

Winner gets a month of sig control.

Actually there is! Since all of the other variables have been isolated we will get to truly measure MK8's system selling capabilities under the stress of watch dogs. If the WII U can Manage over 400K without trouble in the week MK8 launches then we know that watch dogs didn't hinder the system selling capabilities.

Sorry mate, 3 bets once is enough for me, my sig is getting crowded haha. And 430k is a bit too high anyways.

Nope, we'd have to know exactly how much MK8 would have sold if Watch Dogs didn't exist, which is impossible. Otherwise we could always just say MK8 woulda sold better if not for Watchdogs and vice versa, no matter what the numbers are.

And what exactly is impressive about the graphics here? Textures? Lighting? AA?

Who exactly are you aiming your comment towards?

The OP:
"the devs have [made] a game that is so aesthetically pleasing that it is making people second guess just how powerful the Wii U is"

The point I was making was that a lot of people seem to be surprised at how good the game looks. I don't have to know the technical details to know that something looks good. If it's not your cup of tea that's fine, but you're the delusional one if you don't think the game looks amazing.

"Games are a trigger for adults to again become primitive, primal, as a way of thinking and remembering. An adult is a child who has more ethics and morals, that's all. When I am a child, creating, I am not creating a game. I am in the game. The game is not for children, it is for me. It is for an adult who still has a character of a child."

Shigeru Miyamoto

WD not coming out on Wii U (at least any time soon) would be the primary relevance of WD to Wii U at this point.
