From free to play to a full price million seller


From what I've heard, the reason it sold so well as a full price game was because they altered the game to be a fully fledged game worth the price, hence why angry birds never does well because they literally just release the F2P version on a console for full price. If Namco does this with this Tales of the World game, it could see similar success.

But Angry Birds has sold well for quick and easy ports

I suppose, but that's not the point. The point is that this could sell REALLY well if they do a good job on it. It'll probably do well over all regardless.

Yeah, I know.... Abyss sold about  420k in the West, there´s definetely an audience for Jrpgs on the 3ds install base.  I´m just not sure if similar sales figures would be enough to give them some profit after the expenses with localization

wow, i didnt know. good for them, i guess. If its a great game, without micro transactions (dont know if either one had em) then the price kinda equals out. But, this isnt a traditional tales game tnough... if it was, i would actually be excited. I love the tales of series.

Was I the only one who was moderately surprised at how well Tales of the Abyss actually sold on the 3DS? And this is all we get in exchange? Even Kresnik says this is dodgy. Maybe they've fixed the issues from the last entry though...

Yeah it did sell amzingly well for what it was but didnt it launch at a time when 3DS really had nothing, especially in the RPG department.
Although I do agree something better than this is expected, after all Vita got 2 remakes of the DS games so Im sure 3DS deserves better than a smartphone port.

Yes, it released in 2011. I feel the lack of games also boosted OoT 3D's sales in the beginning. However, Tales of the Abyss increased it's sales in 2012 and stay pretty well throughout 2013. It's not dropping off easily.

I love Tales and SRPGs so I will definitely be getting this!... If it gets localized :(

I was hyped until I heard it is based/ported from a mobile game. Hope it does well enough that the 3DS gets another original Tales game in the future.
