Forums - Nintendo - I bought a Wii U! First impressions inside.

First off, let me apologize for my recent negativity/apathy concerning Wii U, because in the end only one thing matters: games. And Wii U has plenty of games I want, like Donkey Kong Country and Xenoblade 2 (which admittedly isn't out yet, but this isn't my first time playing the waiting game- remember the 3DS launch window?)

Naturally, the new console smell eminating from the open box was... overpowering. I was on the verge of tears, particularly when I realized that, after so many years of waiting, I will finally get to play Nintendo games in HD. And by games, I mean Cranky Kong Country: Scrooge McPogo featuring David Wise.

Heck, let's skip the part about my experience with the installiation and crap. Games are what matter, and by golly, Diddy Kong's Quest: Remixes Aplenty was awesome. Its clean, smooth graphics evoked a feeling of nostalgic wonder, and the hand-carved aestetic in some leves absolutely floored me. Sure, it was 720p, but I was playing it on the same 28-inch TV that I used to play Wii games on, so resolution doesn't matter so much from where I usually sit (twelve feet away).

And the controls... just wow! The GamePad is simply the best controller Nintendo has ever concieved. It's surprisingly light and very effective as a standard controller. But Dixie Kong Land: Hair Helicopter doesn't use much of its features, so I can't comment on how good the touchscreen is. Or gyroscope. Or much of anything, really.

Now, I haven't really gotten to the part of Tropical Freeze where the music starts being mindblowing, but I figured I should take a break and tell you guys how much fun I'm having. Also, here's a link to my Nintendo Network ID if you want to add me.

Yeah.  That game's graphics have aged so well, it's not even funny.

Sonic Lost World, Super Mario 3D World, Rayman Legends, NSMB U and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze all conspire to give the finest platform game lineup in a good decade.

The fact that they look so good in HD is just the icing on the cake.

I do need to get WWHD, I'm a bit miffed though as it joined other staple IPs in having an uncharacteristic price reduction before Xmas, but those retailers have sold out and not restocked leaving just GAME wanting 50% more >_

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

If I can get it for under $20, I would jump on it. I don't usually consider remakes to be a good value propisition unless they add new content.

Welcome to the most exclusive club on the planet!

"Games are a trigger for adults to again become primitive, primal, as a way of thinking and remembering. An adult is a child who has more ethics and morals, that's all. When I am a child, creating, I am not creating a game. I am in the game. The game is not for children, it is for me. It is for an adult who still has a character of a child."

Shigeru Miyamoto

Wind Waker HD would have been the best Wii U game if it wasn't a remake, or it is my first time playing it (I did give it 10/10 in my review but that didn't count the gameplay and the story since it was a remake.

SUPER MARIO 3D WORLD FTW!!!!!

Eh, I'm not interested in Lost World. Sonic Boom is on my radar, though. I'm also not a fan of Rayman but I'd pick up Legends if it's cheap.
