First off, let me apologize for my recent negativity/apathy concerning Wii U, because in the end only one thing matters: games. And Wii U has plenty of games I want, like Donkey Kong Country and Xenoblade 2 (which admittedly isn't out yet, but this isn't my first time playing the waiting game- remember the 3DS launch window?)
Naturally, the new console smell eminating from the open box was... overpowering. I was on the verge of tears, particularly when I realized that, after so many years of waiting, I will finally get to play Nintendo games in HD. And by games, I mean Cranky Kong Country: Scrooge McPogo featuring David Wise.
Heck, let's skip the part about my experience with the installiation and crap. Games are what matter, and by golly, Diddy Kong's Quest: Remixes Aplenty was awesome. Its clean, smooth graphics evoked a feeling of nostalgic wonder, and the hand-carved aestetic in some leves absolutely floored me. Sure, it was 720p, but I was playing it on the same 28-inch TV that I used to play Wii games on, so resolution doesn't matter so much from where I usually sit (twelve feet away).
And the controls... just wow! The GamePad is simply the best controller Nintendo has ever concieved. It's surprisingly light and very effective as a standard controller. But Dixie Kong Land: Hair Helicopter doesn't use much of its features, so I can't comment on how good the touchscreen is. Or gyroscope. Or much of anything, really.
Now, I haven't really gotten to the part of Tropical Freeze where the music starts being mindblowing, but I figured I should take a break and tell you guys how much fun I'm having. Also, here's a link to my Nintendo Network ID if you want to add me.
