Forums - Gaming - No Wii U news in a while...

There simply isn't any news to report. There aren't many new 3rd party titles being announced, and their next major 1st party titles is a little under 2 months away. They'll do an NDC to promote the MarioKart launch, but save any future announcements until after that game comes out so they have content to promote at E3.

I expect a fair amount of news at E3. But realistically, there is only so much one publisher can make and promote. Nintendo either needs to get 3rd parties on board with their consoles or add 5-10 development teams so that their consoles are self-sustaining by 1st party alone.

Although, in all honesty there isn't a lot being announced for One or 4, either. They both had their major spring title come out, Nintendo's isn't ready yet. That's pretty much the only difference.

This too. It's the slow season now, with the big Spring games out of the way for the most part (the last two for anyone, Watch Dogs and Mario Kart, right before E3). The time of year when "Most Wanted" lists are populated by filler titles (unannounced games like Zelda U, Halo 5, and Uncharted 4) and forums just spin their wheels until the E3 rumor-mills start in earnest about mid-may.

Here's some news for you: Lego the Hobbit for Wii U is going to be delayed by 2 weeks...

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

There's also a system update

I really don't know what nintendo are up too these days,, how do they expect to sell a console releasing so little game and doing so little marketing is beyond me.

April Fools! The Wii U is doing great and Nintendo gives us constant news and updates on upcoming projects!

I clearly don't understand what they are doing. They promise no droughts and we're between one. Zero marketing. Zero sense.

Iwata will be fired in june.

If so, it will be a token gesture that will change nothing (which is why it shouldn't happen).

I don't know. Something is happening. The Iwata from Wii/DS era is not the same as WiiU/3DS. Investors are starting to lose patience.

True, but given the makeup of Nintendo's Board, it would be little more than a message-sending action which will simply disrupt the hierarchy without bringing in anyone who thinks substantively different. Firing Iwata could cause Iwata's replacement to change his mind about Iwata's strategies, but you're still getting a guy who would think Nintendo was on the right course.

The key with Iwata is that he's been through this exact cycle already: while much of the GameCube was set in stone before Iwata came in, he still ran the company for the vast majority of its life, so much of the gamecube missteps, aside from hardware design itself, fall at his feet. If anything, he's the only known quantity who can dig Nintendo out of this conundrum.

Iwata's job of selling an underpowered, overpriced console with hardly any software available is not an easy one. The main feature of a tablet gamepad has not captured consumer's imagination.

Anyone who takes over from Iwata doesn't have an easy fix available to them. Of course lowering the price of the console is an option and going for the budget end of the market but I don't think shareholders will be pleased with the huge loss of revenue.

Maybe Nintendo's next console will be something competitive in performance that will enable a wide range of third party games to be developed for it.

As a wii u owner I can't really recommend it to other people unless they love Nintendo games and even then there is only a small selection available.

The xbox one gets criticised for its compromised design, removing graphic power so it can have eSRAM to compensate for slow external memory but compared to wii u that console is an utter powerhouse.

People say decent software will save the wii u but its extremely difficult to create new impressive games that people want when the underlying hardware is so weak. Much of what the wii u can achieve has already been done by ps3 and 360. It's really just following in their footsteps. Why would consumers want such a console and why would they pay above those existing consoles in price?

Nintendo can't do much about droughts without 3rd party support. Imagine if the PS4 and XBO had to rely only on 1st party games for the year. It wouldn't be pretty. That said, it is 100% Nintendo's fault that they couldn't get 3rd parties on board. I'll give them a pass for losing EA because fuck EA, but what happened with Warner and Ubisoft?Arkham Knight and AC Unity are skipping the platform entirely. They might still get that rumored last gen Assassins Creed game but that only hammers home the fact that the WiiU is a last gen console.

Nintendo can't do anything to reverse this trend, just hope that Smash Bros and Mario Kart bring in enough money to avoid more losses. Try to get a new console out as quickly as possible since it's clear that the WiiU isn't going anywhere.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Nintendo is just slow. They go at their own pace. Yes, they will be bringing stuff, but at their own pace. It has been that way last gen aswell with the Wii.
They have got to be saving that ammo for E3 though. I still think that no matter what the competition shows, if they have a new Zelda that looks like the tech demo and a new Metroid prime with grorgeus graphics, they will steal the show despite having the least selling console of the year.

Thats what makes Nintendo special. They have the potencial for the best and for just not doing much at all. Lets hope for more of the first.

On that note i might be getting a Wii U next month. Looking forward to giving Sonic a go and X later in the year (might replay Zelda WW in HD aswell).

Wii U is on idle.

New Nintendo games will continue until next hardware.

There are actually quite a few indie titles on the way. So best keep up on the eShop news.
