Iwata's job of selling an underpowered, overpriced console with hardly any software available is not an easy one. The main feature of a tablet gamepad has not captured consumer's imagination.
Anyone who takes over from Iwata doesn't have an easy fix available to them. Of course lowering the price of the console is an option and going for the budget end of the market but I don't think shareholders will be pleased with the huge loss of revenue.
Maybe Nintendo's next console will be something competitive in performance that will enable a wide range of third party games to be developed for it.
As a wii u owner I can't really recommend it to other people unless they love Nintendo games and even then there is only a small selection available.
The xbox one gets criticised for its compromised design, removing graphic power so it can have eSRAM to compensate for slow external memory but compared to wii u that console is an utter powerhouse.
People say decent software will save the wii u but its extremely difficult to create new impressive games that people want when the underlying hardware is so weak. Much of what the wii u can achieve has already been done by ps3 and 360. It's really just following in their footsteps. Why would consumers want such a console and why would they pay above those existing consoles in price?
