They'll utilize it differently, for different things, at different times.

Gamers will be the early adopters of VR technology. So the first wave of success will probably rather go to Sony. So in a way, Sony, PS4 and gaming will make the technology big, then, with more and more people being interested in the technology, prices getting lower, quality getting better etc., VR tech will be used in more and more different, gaming-unrelated areas, where other companies will offer solutions.
