Forums - Sales - Accounting Error reveals Xbox One highest selling console of all time in Australia

Report:

An accounting error by most of Australia's consumer electronics retailers placed Xbox one into 2 categories: 1) game console and 2) multi-media entertainment device. According to the sales data reported by most retailers Xbox one sales reports for game console sales tracking only counted Xbox One's sold under the game console category. But because the Xbox One has amazing multi-media, media hub functionality the vast majority of Xbox One sales in Australia have been under the multi-media entertainment hub category. In fact only 0.01% of Xbox one sales nation wide have been in the game console categoy. This means in the first 4  1/2 months on the market Xbox One has in fact sold more consoles than the previous record holder's lifetime sales, Playstation 2.

Head of Microsoft Australia, John Eales, said he always knew Xbox One would be a hugely popular all-in-one entertainment device in Australia, and he knew that there was every chance that Xbox one would be in every home in Australia in less than 3 years. And it seems Xbox One is definitely on track to achieve this incredible result.

General manager of stock control for Onya Mate! one of Australia's biggest consumer electronics retailers, Dame E. Everidge, said it was a bit embarrassing to have mislead the international marketplace because of this accounting error. But she dismissed criticism saying that every cosumer electronics retailer made the same mistake, and it was only the specialist gaming retailer that provided accurate sales reports, because such retailers don't sell products under different categories.

However there is a down side. According to the same corrections announced by retailers Xbox One software sales remain as originally reported prior to the adjustment in console sales volume. It seems that while everyone in Australia is jumping on the Xbox One over 99% of buyers are not using the Xbox One as a gaming console. "It's PS3 all over again." Says Dame Everidge. It was widely known that PS3 only sold in most markets because it was a cheap Blu-ray player, at the time it launched, andit didn't have any good games anyway.  To this day it is known that Australians only really use their PS3's to watch internet pron.
