What about powersupply, case, mobo, OS and peripherals? We not speaking about the cost of upgrading we speaking about the cost of a new PC 5 years ago. A 5770 should be fine if you see my update but you probably wont be able to get an i7. If you factor in all of the additional costs then it probably wont hold up well today.

obviously you can only get those for that price if you already have parts left.

the so called "pc master race" should have plenty of them left like casing, mouse, keyboard.
you usually buy them once and only replace it after it dies. my peripherals from ~10years ago still working and cases usally don't break and my psu is around since the c2d was introduced.

its true the first time investment is higher, depending on your taste even expensive.
but to be honest after your first time investment you can keep them almost forever. even my first usb mouse still works (ms intelli explorer)

My response was in reply to Kasz216 "A year old PC that cost 400$" he made no mention of only the key components.

As a PC gamer, I will say that I've been saying this for years (in several VGChartz threads even). Also, as a PC gamer, I got The Last Remnant for $3.99 yesterday.

A game that came out in 2008-2009 while on sale is $3.99 (it also isn't that great), Ni no Kuni came out last year and it went as low as $10. (Just to add, I didn't like Ni no Kuni either)

So......What's your point?

even I was doubting that ... you saw my build and it was a $500 "upgrade"

even if you were cheap and get a case+psu combo for $40 and a cheap mouse+keyb combo for $10 you wont be able to get one for $400 with a hd5770 and a good cpu+mb+ram combo

$500-550 is doable, but that won't be with a gaming case, mechanical keyb and gaming mice with a nice headphone ...

Yeah same thoughts here. An upgrade would definitely be viable at that price though. Depending on what parts you already had.

ahhh... that's why a lot of people are unfriendly. Bye guys, I am going back in the happy Miiverse!

I don't hate Microsoft, I don't hate PC,
I don't prefer Sony, I don't prefer Nintendo.
...Ok, I love Nintendo but this is something about tolerance, ok?

I'm a gamer with one of the greatest hobbies and I want to share this greatness with everyone.

Eh, in my opinion a 5 year old computer that cost $400 beats the hell out of last gen and this gen consoles in terms of games available and cheapness.

I know because well... I just replaced mine, and it did a lot better for me then my PS3, Wii, 360, PSP and 3DS combined.

Outside which, the money arguement can literally be made for any platform.  So what's the arguement... there is no superior console beause they all cost different amounts of money?

Also, i'm not Johnny how to spennd your money or anything... but if you are balking the extra price for a gaming PC you probably shouldn't be buying any dedicated gaming console thats more then like $300 bucks n the first place.

A 5 year old computer that cost 400$ surely cant play most of the modern day games? Perhaps a modern pc that costs around that much...

Was that a mistake?

Edit: For that amount of money 5 years ago you could probably get a HD5770 and an i3 in late 2009. I really dont think that setup would be ideal for gaming as of right now. And thats excluding other mandatory costs.

My computer played them all.  Not with good graphics... but it played them.  Though actually it was more like $500 cause i had to buy a seperate card.  Actually forgot because it's been so long.

I'm actually probably just going to clean the whole thing and hook it up to my tv for streaming services.  Then my consoles will pretty much not be used for anything anymore.

As for monitor and keyboard and stuff... that's not stuff i'd count, because you should have those....

and if you don't.  You should be buying yourself a PC before a dedicated gaming system in the first place, even if your only spending $300-400.

Not having a PC in this day and age is a problem.  Everything pretty much assumes you have the internet in the US.  Even government now a days.   (See Obamacare website)

Its PC Master Nerd Race.

These individuals even go out their way into a console topic either in forums or on youtube to try to convert people into PC, or to just say "pc master race" just to feel relevant in gaming.
