Forums - Gaming - Did Talonman forsee our currect downfall

Are any of these things really serious issues? When I get a spare hour I can go through and get them all knocked off.

1. gaming networks aren't displayed in profiles
2. search function doesn't work
3. badges not being updated
4. gamedatabase linkage with gamewise being wonky
5. Adding ways to search all users ( for example an extra box to select or deselect users with profile pictures)
6. more analysis tools for free users ( gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6041612 )
7. No proper explanation for why we have embed, param and object tags, neither how use it.
8. No proper support for special characters on wall messages
9. No mobile version of the site
10. The "<" glitch that hides everything after it's posted
11. The PM glitch where if you post a ' in the title the user cannot respond to it.
12. Not necessarily a site glitch, but we should bring edit stamps back. These bring clarity on whether a user has edited his/her post.
13. Streamlining the forum by removing unnecessary points and badges or implementing a use for them (hint : prediction league)
14. Very annoying mobile adverts, and randomly opening play store
15. General discussion doesn't show up in the hot  topics.

TalonMan gave up a huge amount of his time to work on the site and develop new features and he is definitely missed - no doubt about that - but using the list of minor bugs above to say that VGChartz is in a "downfall" makes no sense. I'd love to have TalonMan or someone else I could trust who could work on fixing bugs and adding new functionality here and there but unfortunately that is hard to come by...

Seriously that's all this would of taken is an hour of your time, yet it's been broken for well over a year?

It's the little things that matter, if it keeps getting built up it's going to turn into a big thing, cmon man this is your site shouldn't you want it to be everything great that it should be?

If I may add a few items to that list:

  • An automatic quote tree cut feature for when folks try to quote more than one person. Quote trees have a way of getting out of control here (and people don't take the time to cut them themselves)
  • Any way to help against spambot infestations is key. Whether it be removing the ability to comment in older VGChartz articles (this is where they spam their ads all of the time) or update the actual registration qualifications to help guard against spambots. Anything would be awesome.

That's all I got.

VGChartz is doomed... sort of.

Anyway I'm glad we could have a civil discussion about this without resorting to violence

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

VGC is made by people, not features. If we got everything on that list done, would it really make people sign up and contribute constructively?

I think we need to stop copying GAF threads. GAF does GAF 100x better than we can. Our strengths are elsewhere.

I didn't want to bring this up, but the prediction league definately was a strenght, the rest is just Quality of life

Couldn't find this thread on the main page after I read it...so I'm sure it's been locked.

Anyway, the largest downfall I've seen on this site has to do with the type of community and community interaction it encourages. Trolling seems to be the norm...with whomever can troll the best getting the most responses/hits. There's no way to change this, as this is the way it is.

But honestly, there were just far cooler, more intelligent people posting like mad on here back in the day. BenKenobi, Stof, Rubang, TalonMan, TheSource...I could go on...

Now we've always had our share of trolls: Kwaad, leo-J, etc...

It's just that the ratio has flipped in the past few years.

Cool, maybe we can finally have a mobile version of this site as well? No? Oh well, least I tried

Seems like everytime I try to get some discussion going on with someone important I never get replied. Kind of frustrating.

Another point about how horrible the communication is now with the users.

We need a second leader, let Brett go off and do he own thing with Gamewise or whatever and have this new guy that can code and do whatever he wants to the site with the permission of Brett of course and actually listen to the users, like Talonman did.
