So they retain their freedom, give the community priorty, and there is hope of getting them better and a lower price product at a faster rate..

What would have been the next step for OR? Not being acquired by Facebook, who have a fine record of aquisitions.. Release it on their own for 400 bucks so noone would buy it and die a fast death? 

That's the key question. He made gazillions with a product that basically has zero value (once the kids lose interest in Facebook what else is there?). He's not dumb though, he buys "real" stuff with his money before the bubble bursts (and it will burst at some future point, that much is sure).

Apparently he basically used 23mio shares for payment. at $70 per share. Today's answer on Wallstreet might be telling on what investors think..

Nothing wrong with someone selling his own company for $ 2bn. It's how he got in that position and what he was saying when he was tricking people into supporting his "humble" begining that stinks.

Sorry, but I have no intention to draw it out for you. I guess you'll have to figure it out on your own what's so wrong with that whole deal, if you're willing, that is.

I don't get the attitude of its "humble" begining and now he sells out.. He did start humble.. He didn't trick people.. He needed to make proof of concepts.. He made his kickstarter a great succes.. If anything, more innovative ideas will go on kickstarter being inspired by this succes..

Do people expect kickstarters to be always be just a small startup companies? This succes will inspire people.. Would have been ok if google had bought it for 400 million? Most people support a kickstarter in the hope it will become a succes.. Now he tenfolded his changes of succes and people are mad at him? Thats just wierd.. Its like people acting its their product instead of supporting a product to succeed. 

Anyway In my eyes its a great way to lift VR out of the realm of nerd niche and into the mainstream building a fantastic life changing product.. Google aquired android in 2005 and they are even worse then Facebook about data mining.. But did we got an awesome product in return? Yes we did.. Do we care about the data mining.. 99% don't..  facebook has evolved to be more then just a social network and into a tech company like google..

I'm really interested in what the overall plan here is. I suspect FB does have some understanding of what they are doing and it seems they are even more hopeful of VR than I am which is a really good sign.

But the behavior of the "smart" consumer is yet again laughable.
