Forums - Gaming - The Xbox One is now cheaper than the PS4

I think will help in US and UK, but I do not think price was the primary issue outside of those markets.

My prediction was NA 1:1, EU 2:1 and JP 10:1 for Sony and I think if price is equal that is still sound.

Ah but you need to get xbl to play this free multiplayer online game online

Also, it's still at least cheaper than the ps4 in canada, where price went up.

So the recent pricedrop and freebie game is now the same cost as ps4 thanks to a priceraise and no freebie pack in.

Oh, welcome to last-gen arguments. IIRC you need PS+ now for online-gaming on PS4, don't you?

I swear it's like you miss the point every fucking time.

He said xb1 is 390 compared to ps4's 400.

If you buy xbl, which is 10 dollars more expensive than ps+, then they are at price parity.

390+60=450
400+50=450

OR

Just the ps4 in Canada.

Since launch, price comparison has switched by 150$. xbox down 100, ps4 up 50.

I swear it's like every time you keep on failing in keeping a moderate tone, don't you? Explain your argument in an educated way and people will keep talking to you, otherwise they won't.

No walsufnir, it is YOU who instigates every single time with these sarcastic potshots.

Cut the attitude

Sony isn't making price cuts or bundling games for a reason, it's still selling out. This will help XB1, and maybe give it an edge in USA/UK for March, but only because PS4 stock is still limited. Once April comes around and PS4 stock is up, XB1 has no hope.

P.S. I wonder how much of an impact Mario Kart 8 will have for the WiiU

Great. Now people can finally see that it's not the price holding the X1 back.

You know, I was thinking the same thing.  Without a doubt the cost of these recent Xbox One deals will spur Xbox One sales, but for how long and will it outsell the competition.  And does it really matter to outsell the competition?  Microsoft just claimed that they are in this to win, and there in nothing wrong with that in and of itself.  My question is what it is they are trying to do to win is the real issue?  I don't care how cheap something is as long as it's something that doesn't offer what I want, I do not want it.  Any product I own and want doesn't have to be the number one selling item in its market.  It just has to be the one that caters to me.  For the consumer, it's better to create and market a profitable product for the consumer instead of being "in it for the win."  So let's see how well the Xbox One will sell from this point on with these bundles and pricedrops.

Is Sony competing with Microsoft?  Of course, but I think with the PS4, they are trying to set a worldwide precedent which in turn will all them to compete better with the Xbox One as opposed to primarily trying to focus shipment allocations to just the territories the Xbox name brand has been doing well just to out sell the Xbox One in those particular territories.  I see that as long as the PS4 is in high demand in most of the world market it's in, Sony is going to ship PS4 as needed as fairly as possible without having to work about outselling the Xbox One in the US and UK.

Your thoughts and mine are virtually the same.  I wonder how much of that is just PR Talk.  The whole "In it to win" thing just doesn't seem plausible.  I think the 360 was hands down the best experience last gen but still, even before E3 last year, I never imagined that it would give the PS4 a run for its money.  I think they should just be happy with their resounding sales success and making a profit.  In business, you don't have to be number one to still win.

Not really. Everyone wants to go where their friends are. And that place, is with the Playstation Nation.

Could be a valid point for some.  Anecdotally, I know a handful of people in real life who have said that they ultimately went with an Xbox 360 because they had a fair amount of friends who were online with their Xbox 360s.  It seems to more of this case this gen with the PS4 ouselling the Xbox One.

So what is holding it back?

Best ask its detractors. Also all the people that switched from 360 to PS4.

Bad press and some bad press, sprinkled with a bit bad press, dropped in a pile of bad press. Did I miss something?

Very few people still care about the bad press, it was nearly a year ago afterall. Most people forgot or just didn't care about it to start with. Price is the only thing holding the Xbox One back from reclaiming it's lead markets and coming in at a close 2nd globally.

Lol. A lot of mainstream consumers don't even know about the 180. They still equal Xbox and Kinext with NSA^^

Reputation is everything. That's why people buy overpriced luxury goods and stay away from cheap garbage.

Also, you can't really argue that the people who already bought a console are the most money savvy consumers ;)

WAAAAAAAAAAAAY more 'actually mainstream' consumers never heard anything about it because they are actually mainstream and don't spend any time at all on gaming forums or specialist gaming websites.

With that logic, consider that the gap between PS4 and X1 is primiarly to be found in Europe, and they are much closer in the US. So neither side has a runaway advantage in the US in terms of 'peer platform' choice.

To get the "PS3 experience" on Xbox 360 in 2006, you had to buy a WiFi adapter, an HD DVD player, Xbox Live Gold, a battery pack, and a PS3 to play PS3 games.

To get the "Xbox One Experience" on PS4, you have to buy a PS Eye (or is it Eyetoy?), a game, a TV with picture in picture, and a servant to change the channels on your TV and turn it on when you ask him/her to.

Obviously, when you consider all things you HAVE to buy, the Xbox One is clearly the better deal. Darn Sony and those hidden costs.

I opted for a slave, a slightly more gray area but costs less.

It wasn't one of those cheap, knock-off, 3rd Party Slaves, was it?
