What the heck that douchebag wants with Oculus Rift? But, in other hand, good news for Sony, now they are the winner on the VR race by default =D

This news is probably not that good for Sony's VR....

Current gaming platforms - Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, New 3DS, PC

2 billion?!?!? Sweet baby Jesus, this VR thing is bigger than I thought lol...

Not even close. If anything Oculus just dominated the early VR days.

Do you realise what kind of marketing and budget this will have now?

Exactly, now Sony has to compete against Facebook. And Oculus Rift has a ton more cash backing it.

or loser.   the platform needs developers to make games and that requires a userbase large enough to justify the investment.   we'll see what facebook does with OR but AAA gaming is probably low on their list.   they'll probably cater to their crowd which means farmville and flappy duck.

sony,..  well the cheese stands alone.

Don't people realize the implications here? VR is the next big thing. Guaranteed

Edge said days ago it is REVOLUTIONARY.

http://www.edge-online.com/news/sonys-dazzling-project-morpheus-demos-show-that-virtual-realitys-future-is-bigger-than-videogames/

"The term ‘revolutionary’ has been hijacked by public relations people and diluted with overuse, but like Oculus Rift before it, I’d happily describe Project Morpheus as such without fear of sounding disingenuous. The countless game developers i’ve talked to about the device this week also speak of VR’s incredible potential – those who have worked with Morpheus, Oculus or both speak in glowing terms of virtual reality’s future applications not just for entertainment but in a wider sense – as a simulator, educational tool, for training – even for therapy.

Virtual reality can change the way we think about not just videogames, but virtual interactions as a whole. Yes, these are prototypes and yes, these are early days for the medium, but in Project Morpheus and Oculus Rift, we’re seeing not just the rebirth of virtual reality, but the starting point for something much, much bigger than videogames."

Mark just announced focus is currently on core game market and that with Facebooks money they are speeding up how fast it will be in gamers hands.

Holy shit I bet we will have a consumer model this year now. YES!!!!!!!

Oculus Rift + Facebook + steam machine VS Project Morpheus + PSN + PS4. Which has mass market appeal?

well, that certainly isn't a pairing I would have thought would happen. I'm curious as to what facebook does with these "extended" business opportunities. Either way, more money for occulus to get to the market I guess, so that is probably good for them, although I'm still not interested...

That's a lot of money.

Wow.

Could be good or bad news for VR. Hopefully facebook doesn't turn this into cheap VR designed for facebook like games.
