Because it's the only Handheld console on the current gen. market that's made by Nintendo. What else am I supposed to say?
Also, we are, "VGChartianz." Get our demographic right, damn it!

Fire Emblem, Zelda, and Tales are three of my favorite gaming franchises, and all three were confirmed to appear on the 3DS near launch. I'd never played Tales of the Abyss on the PS2, and Ocarina is absolutely timeless, so the fact that these were remakes didn't affect my decision at all. The fact that it was actually physically backwards compatible with my DS games is what pushed me over the edge though. I was still playing Dragon Quest IX on my original DS model (pre-Lite), so I finally had an excuse to upgrade. I know some people don't care about backwards compatibility, but it's essentially a must-have for me to buy a system near launch.
Since then, I've been extremely satisfied with it. The games I bought it for were fantastic (Fire Emblem was my GOTY 2013), and I even jumped into franchises I've had no experience with beforehand (Monster Hunter, Bravely Default, and Shin Megami Tensei), and rekindled my interest in games I loved when I was younger (Animal Crossing and Pokemon). I've also enjoyed being able to play old VC games, fun new digital titles, and some of the built-in features. The system honestly eats up more of my gaming time than all of my home consoles combined.
So all in all, I came for the games, and they didn't disappoint.

Mostly for nintendo games. Although it wouldn't matter if i ever bought one as i play Vita far more, I guess that's because of PS+ though
Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Look at my avatar. Now think back to when 3DS was first released. There's your answer.
Of course, it's definitely worth it to anyone to get the 3DS. Price is pretty nice, especially for what you get. The 3DS doesn't just have games, it has the best games of any handheld ever. I've had more fun with my 3DS than any other handheld, Nintendo or otherwise, and I don't even have half of the games I wanted to get yet.
Why, the reason is fairly obvious really. I enjoy playing games, and titles like Fire Emblem, Ace Attorney, Bravelly Default, Layton, Mario Kart and many others have satisfied my varied taste in videogames quite satisfactorily.
I think that's a view shared by many 3DS owners, to be fair.
I bought it to play Pokemon....ironically I have not played Pokemon but I have other games.
Gamestop was having a deal where if you trade in an old DS you can get the original 3DS for $99. Since I had two DS Lites I figured why not. I've only ended up buying like 6 games for the thing though, not exactly one of my favorite systems.
Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
Bought it play nintendo games but I kinda regret it. Great games but I've had enough of these already (mario kart and pokemon mainly, though those would reignite the flame of passion for them, but didn't).
