Forums - Sales - Global HW+SW 15th march. XB1>PS4. TitanFall XB 900k! Dark Souls 800K! PS4 67%+ in UK!

Those are some good Dark Souls sales. Good to see a game like that doing so well.

I am a bit disappointed with the overall One sales, certainly in Europe. Although I tend to forget it hasn't released around here yet. But then again, PS4 is nowhere to be found around here as well.

the downplay is pretty hefty, the 180 machine vs the saviour of gaming

I wouldn't call it downplay. Roughly four months after launch and looking at the numbers, we see that XBox One has basically retreated into its two main markets: NA and UK. And in both markets, the console loses money ($450 with free game in both areas) to stay ahead. That is not really encouraging at this time.

That is not how it works. No one is losing money with Titanfall bundles.

Who are you trying to fool? Most teardowns seen list manufacturing costs of the X1 around $500 (and these might be generous estimates).

You are telling me that selling a console/game bundle for $450 (that includes taxes and store margins in UK) , nobody loses money?

Yes.

And if you think the XOne costs Microsoft 500 to manufacture you are delusional, the highest a saw a teardown was about U$475 and that is debatable... any way, most of then are guesstimation.

PS: by the way the bundle costs U$499... pricing at 450 would be still a good call for Microsoft, but that might strech the EA margins.

if you think the $500 retail price all goes to MS's manufacturing costs you are just as delusional.

start with those tear downs.  then add in shipping costs.  then subtract the retailer's margin.  then subtract EA's cut (cause as you know they get payed for every game sold as part of a the bundle).   ...and for now we're not even considering all the sunk costs in R&D.

MS is losing money on the hardware right now i promise you.  MS didn't pick a $500 MSRP because they wanted to make a $50 profit on every unit sold,... they priced it to be as competitive as they could afford without losing too much money.  by taking an extra ~$30 hit on every titanfall bundle i assure you MS is losing money atm.

Not if you need Xbox Live to play Titanfall ;)

Pretty good number all around considering the release schedule. Even Wii U is up in US.

I think it is time to change my sig (PDF) to say Xbox One saved by Titanfall. Now, only if the Wii u can get a nice boost with a similarly hyped game.

How did you come to the conculsion that one single game 'saved' a system that wasn't doing badly anyway?

Saved would imply that all bases are now covered and there is nothing else to consider.  Also you are working on the old concept that a single title can have a huge to the future of a system.

Allow me to correct you.

Xbox One didn't need saving, it's selling okay.

Titanfall sold to exsisting customers, that's why the game is number one but the titanfall hardware bundle is so low in many lists.

If a single title could still turn a system around, the Wii U would be in a better position.

Sony want to make money by selling art, Nintendo want to make money by selling fun, Microsoft want to make money.

Increase of X1 in US was anticipated. The bigger question is how long can the X1 maintain that kind of performance, especially when Infamous just came out and Sony put a lot of PS4's in stock when Titanfall was out.

It's great that the X1 finally broke 100k, but after Titanfall, what else is there in the near future? Quantum Break still doesn't have a clear release date nor does Halo 5. In contrast, the PS4 is getting FFXIV next month, Driveclub, Shadow of the Beast, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, and The Order.

Not surprising but for how long?

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

@ Did you not read the sig?  It was stolen from PDF (i.e it wasn't my opinion). I added the sony part to balance the universe.

26+ ID@XBOX games including IDARB, Super Time Force and Strike Suit Zero. Bigger indies like Below and D4. 3rd party games. Kinect Sports Rivals, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, possible Forza Horizon 2 + Halo 2 Anniversary and more games to announce at E3

It was a great boost, but that was the Titanfall boost, end of it. Theres likelly to still ba a small Titanfall boost for 2-3 weeks and tham its back to normal. The question is how much is normal ? Has the heavy bundling and UK price cut had an impact ? Is PS4 interest dwindling making some ppl want to pick the XOne instead of a PS4 in the future ? Were gona know whats XOnes normal a few weeks from now, till there this week only means ppl were excited for Titanfall release.

That's no different than the majority voting for inFamous metacritic to be over 90. Or fans massively voting for Wii U to outsell X1 in Q1. Fans vote for highest possibilities.

Which will sell more in Q1 - Xbox One or WiiU?

Xbox One 290 41.85%

WiiU 353 50.94%

Tie 50 7.22%

Total: 693

Of course it's like that on all sides. It doesn't make it any less funny.

Nope, just makes them useless.

Except 21% isn't a majority. 79% expected a sub 90 score. Saying 21% is a majority is extreme spinning.

Or someone who realizes that majority and pluraility are often used as synonyms.

Definitely not in this case...
He was making it seem as if most people thought infamous would get 90+. Almost 80% thought it would not.

Oh whatever, highest percentage, majority, it was the wrong wording. You know what I meant. The most votes for one of the choices was "more than 90". Now the poll is even more inconclusive because the actual metacritic isn't even a choice.
