Forums - Nintendo - GDC: Former Castlevania Producer Would Love to Work on Metroid

The final decision is up to Nintendo, but Koji Igarashi could help revive Nintendo’s iconic sci-fi franchise.

Earlier this week, former Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi left Konami to start his own development studio. In a statement, Igarashi told IGN, "I've decided to break out on my own to have the freedom to make the kind of games I really want to make -- the same kind I think fans of my past games want as well."

IGN caught up with Igarashi and we asked, given his experience with making 2D action games, would he consider working with Nintendo to revive the Metroid series?

“Whether it’s possible or not comes down to the [intellectual property] holder, which in this case would be Nintendo, and whether they want to work with me, “ Igarashi told IGN through an interpreter. “But, if they did want to work with me, I would love the chance of doing that.”

Igarashi was the assistant director on Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, a 2D action game made in a similar style to the 2D Metroid games. Symphony of the Night is widely revered as one of the greatest video games ever made. Igarashi's follow-ups to SoTN all followed similar "Metroidvania" approaches, but each entry also experimented with new ideas.

2010’s Metroid: Other M was the last time Nintendo released a Metroid game, and since then fans have eagerly awaited the return of bounty hunter Samus Aran.

I would buy a wiiu for this.

If he can't, he should just make a game similar to Metroid as an indie game on the Eshop.

What if its on the 3ds?

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

If he would, the circle would be complete...
Personally, while I think the Super Metroid style always fit Metroid well (no shit!), I never really liked it in Castlevania. I far and way prefer Super Castlevania IV and Castlevania: Bloodlines to anything metroidvania.

Sadly, these days Castlevania is neither, and IMO just straight up sucks instead

nintendo Really needs to let some of the franchises be worked on by other developers even if they are spinoffs.

Seriously we have people wanting to make Starfox/Metroid/etc, why not let them(like Hyrule Warriors)? Just hope it wont turn out bad O.o

Would be very interesting to see. Some of the 2D CastleVania Metroid clones (you heard me! "Metroidvania" is NOT a genre!!! they're all Metroid clones! :D) were very well designed.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.
