Forums - Sony - So Infamous is a flop: why did Sucker Punch fail?

Both Titanfall and Infamous are great games and as a PS4 owner I look forward to playing Infamous Second Son and hopefully being able to play the Titanfall squeal if there is one and its coming to the PS4.

Simple question, difficult answer. With the recent metacritic reviews coming in Infamous Second Son has an average of 81; or a flop by AAA game standards. Where did Sucker Punch go wrong? It's obvious that the 54 critics on metacritic all agreed with one thing: The story sucks.

It's a shame really. But I guess with Titanfall failing to be a great game with a score of 90+, we should have expected this. The next gen simply isn't very next gen if it can't even produce 90+ games on Metacritic because as we all know; great games must have at least a 90+ score to be great.

Put simply: Infamous: Second Son is a flop; as is Titanfall. I guess we're still waiting for the first truely "next gen game".

Discuss why Infamous is a flop in your opinion.

*Disclaimer: I have not played infamous nor Titanfall. I am simply assuming they are bad games based on their subpar 90 meta-scores as most gamers should*

Nu-uh!!! Towerfall Ascension is a 90 metacritic! PS4 GOTY

Towerfall is not a truely next gen game. It was ported from PC and everybody knows PC has no gen.

I think I am at the point where I am comfotable saying "WHO FUCKING CARES IF A GAME IS NEXT GEN?"

Edit: Interesting thread.

Thought this going to be the highest scoring infamous game, still has a good chance of being the best selling one.

knew it.i was guessing from the begging that it would flop.

Sucker Punch only have themselves to blame. If they'd removed the story, made sure the framerate drops regularly, added tearing and made it online only, the scores would have been much better.

Thats funny. Thank you for the laugh. Lol, so true. Stupid sucker punch.

If they had also made it unavailable in Africa, it would have got 5/5 from Sessler.

Lol... what score did stiffler give it?

3/5 and if you listen to the review, you can see he had issues with Sony:

Isn't this the jerk who threw a tantrum when he didn't get a free PS4?

Even if this game were to get 5's it would still sell 3+ million. that's pretty good for a trilogy

The score just keeps on getting higher for the flop status huh? Soon getting a 90 could be considered a failure.

Who the hell said the story sucks?!? I actually have the game for about a week now and while I'm not finished with it (damn grown up stuff taking too much of my time) so far, I wouldn't say the story sucks. I'll put it like this, the story is better than infamous 1 and 2, and those didn't suck (they weren't all that great either)....I sometimes question why I still come here smh.

In general, I hate how the grading scale isn't unified, and it is games like this that suffer for it. For instance, too many reviewers grade on the 5/5 scale and ONLY use whole numbers to differentiate the quality of the game review. Sessler gave it a 3/5. A 3/5 = 60/100, now does he actually feel this? I don't think so, but due to the range of his scale that is super detrimental to the avg. I also in general do not trust his review, as he gave Fable 2 GOTY over games FAR more deserving way back when, it felt cheap and almost "moneyhatted"
