Its real, its coming and it has a big chance to change gaming as we know it. Whether you like the idea of VR or not you simply can't deny the huge amount of potential Virtual Reality has. VR could very well be the biggest thing to happen to gaming since the jump from 2D to 3D games.
Imagine a game like Destiny in VR?! Skyrim or Witcher?! i have said sentences like that so many times recently, and its true, just imagine how amazing that experience could be. But what if i imagined something that i didnt think about before? what if i didnt think of VR of a tool to just put my inside the amazing games we have now, but instead make new games, new adventures possible, magical and fucking amazing? Sony, Oculus and Valve now have the same responsibility. Make VR change gaming, and do it RIGHT.
The reason i am making this thread is simple. VR opens new doors, brings in new potential, and i dont want that to be wasted on whats popular now, but to make new experiences popular. The market is Crowded with FPS and TPS games. and while VR could be perfect for FPS games, i dont want it to to be biggest and dominant genre by far in new VR world.
Imagine a First person platformer, jumping over hurdles, exploring amazing worlds and using the emotions that only VR can bring to make platformers change forever? personally, i have a strong fear of hights, and playing a platformer with VR on could be scary, yet amazing. it would make me feel so much more than "ohh my character just fell in a hole and died", it would make me feel as if i were jumping over a cliff for real, make me take that risk, and ultimatly, make a new experience.
or imagine a game based on sound, one where VR puts you in this gruesome, scary and dark world. and for example, just like limbo you need to find your sister. you find your way following what ever sounds she makes, her cries, laughter, screams, footsepts and so one. VR could make that an amazing experience by simply and quite literally putting you in that world.
These are Ideas just from the top of my head and i am sure Sony, Valve, and other Devs can come up with a lot more and much better ones. But the point stands, if Virtual Reality is to really change gaming. Sony, Valve and all devs who are working on games for VR should try make new experiences other than just making VR extend the current market that is dominated with shooters. If they don't do so, they will fail us, and even more so, they will fail them selfs.
