Forums - Gaming - What happened to "Draw distance"?

There is a genre that is the king on draw distance, not matter the generation:

Just now wicher seems to manage to provide a vision at a mountain.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

I haven't notice the problem you are talking about OP

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

We're still a long way off from where you can use a scope or binoculars and get a decent view.
With 1080p not only better textures are important but also a longer draw distance. So far we just get a few low res landmarks and bare features in the distance.

Just cause 2 is still the best for long distance imo, not perfect but very impressive.

Skyrim sucks in comparison

And Far cry 3 isn't much better

Climbing on top of a mountain for an incredible view usually ends in disappointment.

2050?

On consoles Ni No Kuni is pretty good, low res and simple graphics help

Only just cause 2 is impressive in that regard.

I am hoping the final game will retain the quality of E3 trailer.

Dark Souls. Everything you saw was a part of the game.

Those witcher screens must be from a very high end PC.
I could bet anything that PS4/X1 and mid range PC's will not have that much detail on the objects that far in the background.

I agree, the draw distance in Just Cause 2 was just crazy.

Dark Souls is applicable in almost every thread about under appreciated parts of games and hardly anyone ever brings it up.
