Forums - Nintendo - Wii U a lost cause? Fire sale of new Wii U releases inc DK. We need to talk about it!

If all you sell is these new games, why would you discount them? It's not a Supermarket where you lure someone in with a £25 COD to get them to do their weekly shop of milk, eggs and bread whilst they're there.

People go into a games shop and will usually buy 1 game. They won't go "oooh! look! that game is cheap! I'll buy these other 6 games too!"

Also, wouldn't such an offer need to be promoted in the windows of the shop, rather than just when you get to the sparsely populated Wii U rack down one side of the store?

DKC: Tropical Freeze will probably be ported to the next gen Nintendo portable (2015 or so) so they will be able to double dip on sales then.

Wii U is simply a lost cause.

Are there citations? I didn't bother reading the whole thread, I thought those kind of things where more fitting to put on the OP.

I know what this thread is though, it's a clear copy from rol's thread. Only it's done with anecdotal evidence instead of real evidence.

If you where trying to be serious.. well that's even more funny. The timing of your thread is what gives it away though, you posted this thread exactly a couple of hours after his thread and even use part of his title thread in yours.

The wording is taken from Rol's thread, which I actually loved for the record. However I was originally planning posting this at the weekend when I got the games as I was in utter shock seeing DK reduced. (I wasn't planning buying it until I had finished 3D World and Sonic Lost World)

If you want to continue to believe someone who has owned pretty much every console and still goes completely multi format has an ulterior agenda for Sony, fair enough. That's your own paranoia and whatever helps you sleep at night. But given I pre ordered a Wii U premium system, and I don't know if you can see, but also paid full retail (£44.99) for Zombi U. I really don't see why I would take actual pleasure in seeing one of my consoles crash and burn.

I guess it's difficult for people who are only able to champion a single system to understand that some people actually love gaming rather than console wars and there isn't always an ulterior motive.

I am not calling you a Fanboy nor I accuse you of having an agenda with Sony. See my profile though, I own quite a lot of consoles.

I just want to point out how obvious it is you are copying rol. Normally I wouldn't comment but I did because I feel the thread is not quite good as it could be. You need to use more concrete evidence next time and choose a more solid argument rather than a fire sale about one videogame.

Specially since you choose the Wii U to make this thread... it has so much potential for these kind of threads.

i never buy just 1 game...  and british shops arnt known for beeing great at calculating, thats why they are all going down.

and a good supermarket dont lure in with discounted prices, the lure people in with permanent cheap prices on some products(milk, eggs,Butter).

Sorry, thought the copying Rol part was obvious.

I'll monitor the performance of Mario Kart and Smash Bros for expansion. But from what people have said in here, thankfully it does currently seem like a UK exclusive phenomena.

Though the reduction thing has applied to most of Wii U's releases. As I said even Super Mario 3D World was reduced before Christmas. The first time I have ever known a mainline Mario title have a price reduction prior to Nintendo introducing a "Players Choice" range or equivalent.

Sadly I don't have the thread creating talent of Rol :( His thread really did entertain me on the train journey home tonight.

I guess you should tell the big 4 UK Supermarkets that. They all use heavily discounted high profile video games, Bluray/DVDs and books as loss leaders to drive sales.

I'm also pretty certain GAME reported pretty strong sales and profits at their last results, though I have no idea how, as their strategy seems to be add £5-£10 over what anyone else is charging.

the big 4 uk supermarkets are doomed anyway, aldi and lidl will crush em fast...

Maybe, but they don't sell video games ;)

I noticed DKC TF was pretty cheap where I live... ($59 when a new console game normally costs $79 to $100 depending on where you get it).
