Forums - Nintendo - A biased review: Super Mario Bros. Deluxe

You actually gave this game a 7.5?! That's too high imo! I cannot handle the controls - at all. Running with the B and jumping with A was fine on the NES, but NOT on the 3DS. I'm having such a hard time playing this game that I've just given up. Why can't I run with Y and jump on B??? What little I've played of this I'd give it a 5-5.5; mediocre... At best.

Do you know of a way to change the controls?? IF so, I'd be more than willing to return to the game.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Well, I like Super Mario Bros. and this is a biased review. And honestly, this time I rated the game on the basis that it is free, rather than it needs to be paid for, hence why I wasn't harsh at all.

Unfortunately you can't change the button mapping. That's another important thing that Nintendo needs to work on when it comes to Virtual Console.

I like Super Mario Bros as well, that's why I was sooo disappointed when I first played this game... I loved NSMBWii (espacially the co-op mode) and was really looking forward to playing this on my 3DS, but alas! It was not to be. It controls so badly that I can't enjoy the game. And bad controls ruins every thing, even if it's a free game. Why you do this Nintendo?!

Would love this for North America. I've always wanted to try it.

You're not missing out, since it controls like shit... It's difficult as hell to run on B and jump on A on the 3DS...

It's worth a 9 for sure- it's far easier controlling than it was on the GBC and has so much content and nostalgia it's beautiful.

~~~~ Mario Kart 8 drove far past my expectations! Never again will I doubt the wheels of a Monster Franchise! :0 ~~~~
You forgot about the save feature.
The NES game couldn't be saved so it had to be completed in one sitting (or one could conveniently use the warp-zones of course and be honest about it), while the GameBoy Color remake features a Super Mario Bros. 3-style level-select which besides from letting the player select levels also automatically saves your progress.
To me this was the single reason why I used to prefer this version over the NES version, which I never completed myself contrary to this remake. Personally I never found the reduced field-of-play and the controls to be a big hindrance.
Though maybe all that's pointless now anyway considering VC has save-states.
The button configuration on the 3DS VC is indeed a pain in the behind. Recently played through Shantae and it took a while getting used to. Luckily the Wii U VC lets you configure the buttons as you wish and I see no reason for why Nintendo shouldn't add that option to the 3DS VC.
As for SMB Deluxe, I didn't get the game because I'm a lazy fool who forgot to link his NNID in time.
Hmm...maybe I'll try eBay.
