Also, borrowing from a friend could work, if you have the same system as your friends...

In all seriousness though, I do the same with franchises/developers that have proven themselves to me over the years. Just seems kind of weird to plop down money to just try out a game.

Well I'm more likely to purchase a wii u then the vita thats for sure. Wait a min where does the $430 come from!? The wii u is 300+50 games so $350 and tax prob another 30. $50 for some memebership!? I will pay $25 for memebrship, nothing more or less! Good day to you sir!

it's totally absurd. internet should provide you with enough information to judge a game with let's say 90% accuracy by the time it releases.

Not entirely on topic, but everyone says "once you open a game you cant return it" and I have not once had that problem O.o Ive even returned PSN games which supposedly cant get returns on twice

If someone tells me to try it before judging then if the game is interesting enough and i have the cash i will purchase it. However since thats not always the case i usually try to borrow the game from a friend (which i will go out and purchase afterwards if i really enjoyed it) or wait until it goes down in price.

To answer your question about whats my method before purchasing a game.....
i watch trailers, gameplay videos and read a couple articles about the game. If i like it or sounds like it caters to my tastes then i purchase it.....all with out looking at metacritic or a single review :). (i might check the review of the game later when im done, but usually i dont because i mostly dont care what reviewers have to say about a game i enjoyed)

However there are the times when i've read reviews about games unknown or mis looked which could spark my interest.
