Forums - Gaming - "Wii U Slowly Being Killed Off" Says Uniformed Reactionary Moron.

So, as with much of the internet yet another Wii U is DOOOOOOMED!!!1!!!one!! articles came out recently. You can read it here if you absolutely must but you're really not missing out if you decide it's not worth your time, (and it's really not) - Click here for moronic dribblings - So, to breifly summerise, apparently 6 million people isn't enough sales by a long shot and proves the Wii U is dead, incidentally the exact same number of sales makes the PS4 indestructable and the fastest selling console of all time even though it's clearly not and everyone needs to stop saying that, it's the biggest crock of shit of them all so far... This guy seems to think because Nintendo have mentioned that they may bring out some kind of lifestyle enhancement product, likely looking for the "health freak" market they kinda touched on with Wii Fit, that this means they're clearly planning on having this replace the Wii U... after all, fitness products and video games, they're exactly the same so who'd need a games console if they have a fitness device, (whatever that is). Nintendo have already said this is a new venture entirely seperate from their gaming ventures, and considering the outright millions they've got in the bank that's easy to believe.

This kind of article keeps happening now, and it's pissing me off. It's all pointless GARME JERNALISTS who have no integrity to begin with stiring up the fanboys and it's working. It seems the internet as a whole has a massive boner over the concept of one of the big three going under, and everyone seems to want it to be Nintendo. There's more articles than I can count claiming Nintendo are going to switch to making mobile games; because we all know Nintendo are in the business of making the 3DS completely irrelevent. The suggestion that Nintendo will, "go third party like Sega did" usually followed by comparing the Wii U to the Dreamcast; that's uttered by some dude-bro prick every 12 seconds because they fail to grasp that Nintendo are richer than Scrooge McDuck and Sega was so broke they didn't have a pot to piss in or a window to chuck it out of. When will it end? Well I'm going to point out the facts as they stand... here they are.

1. Nintendo will be fine. Wii U will be fine. The Wii U will break 10 million units by years end spurred on by a combination of system seller games like Smash Bros, Mario Kart, etc. a price drop later in the year, and a Christmas period which will see the Wii U sell more than expected by most, as both gamers looking for a second console, and the budget gamer pick it up; it will also likely be a common Christmas present for kids.

2. Nintendo will never go third party. They're in a better situation financially than Sony, and in a better situation by public opinion and exposure than Microsoft. Nintendo is in fact the most stable of the three manufacturers and this won't change any time soon.

3. The Wii U will have a shorter lifespan than the planned lifespan of the current generation. It will likely last till around mid-2017 which considering it came out in 2012 will give it an aproximate 5 year lifespan - about average for this industry. The Xbox One and PS4 however are planned for a 10 year lifecycle with PC arcitecture that's already obsolete. 10 years will NEVER happen. PC's will far outstrip what those consoles can do in that time, there's no way in hell they'll last till 2024. As such I expect another Nintendo console to be released in 2017 at the earliest, which will likely far outstrip the PS4 and Xbox One in power simply because, for the first time ever the consoles being released are not high end machines.

4. No-one is going to disappear. Sony is selling well, and while finances are bad it will not change the fact that they're dominating an industry and that will get them more investment and profit. Nintendo are as I've said also fine. Lastly Microsoft, while I don't personally like the Xbox One, it'll sell fine at least in North America, particularly with the Titanfall, Halo and general first person shooter audience who grew up with Xbox Live sticking with it, it'll likely fall to a position in third place, behind the Wii U as it quickly becomes irrelevent outside of USA (and maybe UK). Microsoft may bail out of the games industry after the Xbox One as some prominent executives within the company don't consider the industry to be a good financial investement, though it's unlikely even for them.

5. Barring the 3DS which has been out a lot longer, no 8th generation device has yet to even outsell the fucking Dreamcast yet. For all the predictions we're making, judging anything at this point is pointless. Remember all the "PSP is dead" stuff back in 2005-6, then it goes on almost match (and for a short point outsell) both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 in lifetime sales, more than 80 million; that's more than the NES, the original Xbox, the N64, and literally anything Sega ever made... in fact it's more than the SNES and Mega Drive COMBINED!!! To use another example; remember the PS3's early years, everyone declaring it dead, in 2007 and joking it had no games, putting blu-ray films in their Top 10 PS3 games because they couldn't get to 10. Funny fuckers. Now the PS3 is arguably the most relevent 7th gen hardware today, with current week by week sales actually beating the Xbox One. In short, what's true now isn't always true. In 2007 the Xbox 360 was the way to go, Sony consoles where dead and Nintendo was nothing but a gimmick maker. By the end of the generation the Xbox 360 has nothing new coming out and is as reliable as a chocolate fireguard, the Wii and DS are breaking 100 million sales, and the PS3 is the console producing serious hardcore exclusives... everything can change.

6. Fanboys are fucking idiots and GameSpot (and the majority of gaming sites for that matter), seem to employ writers for the sole purpose of making click bait. It's getting sad.

That's it, rant over. Anyone want to add anything.

Not sure if this is a troll post but I will bite. The PS4 sold 6 million in about a third of the time it took the WiiU to do it. It's not the absolute amount it sold but how quickly it did.

Really good rant, I like you ;)
But you're first "fact", while almost sure to happen, it's not a fact and you shouldn't treat it like one. Also, calm down a bit, all these called "game journalists" suck, don't worry too much about them.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Nintendo will be absolutely fine.  However the Wii U is not fine due to basically no more 3rd party.  10 million units by year's end is possible, but unlikely given the pace, and the lack of effect of top Nintendo IP like Pikmin, SM3DW and DKC already.  Even at 10 million it isn't fine.  Nintendo expected to be at 13 million by now, probably way over 23 million by end of this year.  10 million after 2 years would be no better than the GameCube, and GameCube was way more healthy with 3rd party support and exclusives at this stage.

2. Nintendo will never go third party. They're in a better situation financially than Sony, and in a better situation by public opinion and exposure than Microsoft. Nintendo is in fact the most stable of the three manufacturers and this won't change any time soon.

I would not bet on them going 3rd party either.  Having said that, never say never.

Sony always says their console has 10 year lifespan, and they've been right.  That doesn't mean no new console for 10 years.  They will also likely release another console around 2018 or 2019.

Being 1st with a console that outstrips the last generation (a bit) didn't work for Wii U, did it?

Sure, too early to say anything here.

There is nothing wrong with casting good arguments, even if they may turn out to be wrong.  It's only pointless if you have zero ability to judge facts and data.

There's no bonus points for hindsight, only for foresight.

Probably right, it is amazing to see big doom opinion articles make it onto review sites like GameSpot or Polygon.
