The old adage "everything old is new again" definitely applies here. Simply substitute the RTS genre in #2 with FPS.

The #1 entry is kind of dumb. Actually, no, it's really dumb. Attempting to improve upon something that works well is extremely important in any industry. New does not automatically mean better and more often than not it isn't. It's also, by definition, going to be rare for truly new things to be created after a medium has reached a certain age.
