Well if true, then its a possibility of others having reskins instead of a wasted character slot ex: Dr. Mario/Young Link

My theory on this is that a reskin will only occur if the name fits. The male wii fit trainer is still Wii Fit Trainer, so that works, but something like Sonic -> Shadow wouldn't.

Speculation 2 could be a projectile reflector (like fox) or a projectile absorber (like Lucas)...I'd guess absorber because it looks pretty similar to Lucas'

I definitely think it's alt skin, as it's not a new character and since he's in the same exact pose as the female Trainer, it's not likely an assist trophy rather than a playable character. I bet Sakurai will soon 100% confirm this by showing off the female version of the Villager. As for the second pic, I have no clue what that is! Maybe someone who played Wii Fit would knows!
