That eurovision event was... well, kinda shame that those 17 y.o. girls got all the negativity because of the Ukraine :/

Speaking of the eurovision. What did Russian tv show when the winner was announced? Apparently "the bearded woman" was going to be censored in Russia and China??

Regarding the booing of the Russian twins I think it was rather sad and inappropriate as well.

People are being hypocritical when they say "No politics tonight. Forget race, sexuality, etc" and then minutes later boo of two innocent girls.

At least Russia got more than twice as many points as the UK. We only got 40 points x} I think Molly was hot and did damn well?

I hate Russia. I wish you all the worst.

I didn't feel it that strongly some time ago, but recently you did a lot and caused me to openly hate your country. You don't deserve anything else, as a nation and country you are an asshole bully to everyone around you. Average Russians can be nice on a daily basis to drink vodka with and stuff and this first impression is what fools the Western people, who don't know you better. As a nation you are unacceptable and it's such a pity that the West simply doesn't know you well enough to understand it. They haven't experienced the evil that Russians always bring. The only period when US really understood what you are was when Reagan was in office. It would be a blessing for everyone if USA returned to his policy.

Unfortunately, the West doesn't realise just what a pathological, corrupt and savage mentality Russians have. Most people think you are just like us, but this couldn't be further from the truth. Unfortunately Russians are being raised in a twisted reality and surrounded by a wicked propaganda. They are half-way between the West and Northern Korea mentally. There is a popular celebrity in Poland, Olena Marczuk, who is Ukrainian (born in the USSR), but came to Poland when she was 20. She said in an interview, that it took her more than 10 years of living in Poland and reading wise books to finally lose the pathological Russian mentality (and she's an inteligent woman - a lawyer and the No. 1 seed on her party's list to the European Parliament). Moreover, I think that the quote from the legendary General Patton says it all:

"The difficulty in understanding the Russian is that we do not take cognizance of the fact that he is not a European, but an Asiatic, and therefore thinks deviously. We can no more understand a Russian than a Chinaman or a Japanese, and from what I have seen of them, I have no particular desire to understand them, except to ascertain how much lead or iron it takes to kill them. In addition to his other Asiatic characteristics, the Russian have no regard for human life and is an all out son of bitch, barbarian, and chronic drunk."

You may think what I say is crazy or unfair, but trust me - this is painfully true. Throughout history, every single time when Russia was strong, there were wars, unrest and killing in the region. Every single time. You can experience it right now - they are an aggresive nation, crazily fixed on conquering and subduing other nations. This is the true face of Russia. One we, people living in the region, have known for centuries. It's a nation that thinks it should dominate and rule all the nations surrounding them - even though from the cultural and mental point of view, they are by far among the most underdeveloped and primitive nations in the region.
The late President of Poland, Lech Kaczyński said in 2008 in Georgia during the Russian invasion:

"We all know very well that it's Georgia today, Ukraine tomorrow, the Baltic States the next day and later maybe the time will come for Poland as well."

He said that in 2008 - foreseeing what is happening now in Ukraine, yet the West still prefers to be ignorant and doesn't want to listen to such words of wisdom. You think we are overreacting. You still think that Russians are like us. You still just don't understand and refuse to believe that nothing has changed in Russia since the worst times of the USSR and the Cold War. NOTHING. This is who they have always been, who they are and who they will be. They don't know better.

Only when Russia is down, held on a tight leash, is there peace in Central and Eastern Europe. In the 90s, when Russia was weak - there was peace, all countries were developing rapidly after the nightmare of the Russian rule under the USSR banner. What happened when Russia got richer? Wars, wars, wars. Only recently in 2008 they invaded Georgia, now they've invaded Ukraine. Everywhere they come, they bring death, terror and violation of human rights. Now the question is who's gonna be next and when?

I hope that the party of the twin brother of the late President of Poland (who obviously had to die in Russia in an "accident"... just like everyone who is a threat to that country) comes to power in the upcoming elections. At this moment he's probably the only person capable of uniting the Slavic countries in our stand-off against these primitive brutes, just like his late brother was doing it. Poland has to be more active and take the role of the leader of the region - the sooner, the better for everyone. Unfortunately we can't count on any help from the West, we can only do it ourselves. The West only thinks about its money and doesn't care at all about things like values, the life and freedom of other people or even their own promises and guarantees. Putin is absolutely right when he laughs when asked about the West's reaction to his actions. Cause it is laughable. He will take everything he wants and even though the West could stop him anytime, it won't do a thing just thinking about money.

It's such a pity that Russia is so rich in resources. It would mean nothing without them, as it has no real economy to speak of and Putin is unable to reform the country - that's why he's blinding the Russians with imperialistic dreams and the plan to rebuild their empire of evil.

I hope I'll live to see the day when China holds a refendum in Siberia and takes away the region from Russia - just like they took Crimea away from Ukraine. Would be a glorious day.

Wow, it seems we've found the guy who voted in the poll for the second option 48 times! )))
Btw, when you wish somebody bad things it usually comes back to you. The more people like you will be in Poland - the deeper ass your country will fall in. And please don't mess your economic problems with Russia, those things are surely different.

Well, I didn't watch Eurovison - for my opinion its too weak from musical point of view.
As I understand, bearded thing was shown on Russian TV, not censored. I don't understand the hype about it tbh. Tatu was on Eurovision as a lesbian duo. Danilko (Ukraine comic actor) was on Eurovision as a trance.
Its a freak show, medieval circus, nothing more. Its a shame that singers now trying the easy way - not to sing better songs, but to show something scandalous and get their 10 minutes of glory out of it.

From Russian dashboard cams there are always clips of them stopping to help little old ladies across the street. In many cases it looks like those old ladies have been waiting a while and are afraid to cross.

Why are little old ladies in Russia terrified to cross the street?

Traffic could be dangerous in Russia. In 90-s it was like road rules are not exist at all. Now its much better, but you can always get into some driving idiot on the street. Also driving habits varies greatly from region to region, so it can be places where it is really dangerous to cross the road.

Again a hard question. From my point of view, this is acceptable on two reasons.

1. People are living better since Putin get to power.

2. People support him.

From the law point of view they made it the way that its 100% legal. And since most of Russia support Putin we close our eyes on some things. ))
Btw, if I know correctly, Rusvelt also was a president 3 times, even against some American laws. Should you call him a dictator because of this?

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected president four times. He fully served three terms but died early on in his fourth term. At the time there was no law that said a president could only serve two terms. George Washington had set the precedent of only serving two terms at most, and it had been followed up until 1941 when Roosevelt was elected to his third term. Roosevelt brought the United States out of the Great Depression, led the US through WW2, and set the US up to be the most powerful nation on Earth. I personally regard him as the greatest president in the short history of the United States.

By the way, thank you for making this thread, it's been an interesting read.

Has Russia ever thought about selling any portion of Siberia?

Why should we? We are not in need of money, our economy is profitable, we don't have big government debt.
Maybe we should think of buying some areas - that could be a deal. ))

Greetings from the other side of the Pole. What do Russians think about Canada (other than we're America's hat)? And have you read the Metro 2033 book series?

Hi! Canada is northern country - so of course we like you! ))) It is a country with all the benefits of USA but with colder weather and minus all the USA crasyness. (This is just my personal opinion).
I didn't read Metro books. They are very popular in Russia recently, but I've stopped reading fantasy books some time ago.

Good to hear, we do our best, haha.

I do think this thread as a whole is a good idea, especially since the public distortion between the US and Russia is massive. I come from near that part of the world, I'm Romanian by origin but I also have family that came from Russia and Ukraine. What I've noticed, living in a Western country but also living with people (my dad especially) that are keeping forms of their culture alive, is how large of a contrast there is between the two realities and how every story is more complicated than it seems.

I don't think some people realise how different cultures can be from each other, so I definitely think that discussion is a good way to eliminate sterotypes and have thought instead of conflict.

Censorship in Russia is not that harsh as western media trying to imply. In fact, the only real example is olympic rings, but I dunno if you can call it that.

So yeah, that guy who dress like a girl, who paint beard over his face, was shown.

The real looser was French guy, who got like 2 points for his mustache song. So in 2014 beard>>>>>>>>>mustache))
