Supreme Commander, and its expansion Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, are currently super cheap on Steam.

These games are both absolutely brilliant, from the original makers of Total Annihilation, and the guys now making Planetary Annihilation.

If you get them post your impressions here.

Do yourself a favour and never, ever play Supreme Commander 2 - which is an entirely different and disappointing experience!

Here's another recommendation to those games. Technically I've only played SC and not Forged Alliance but it's more or less the same stuff really so if one is good, the other is too.

Definitely give Forged Alliance a go.  It refines a lot of the mechanics, and the story is interesting enough.

Whenever I do a campaign replay I definitely do FA!

Oh I will. I just want to finish the original game first, and I haven't had time for it yet. I got pretty far in the Aeon campaign last time, then had to format my computer and kind of forgot the game for a while... But eventually I will!
