More clear than that... impossible.

*yawn*
I know you love pointless, circular discussion, but I get bored. If you ever find an actual quote from EA, feel free to let me know. Otherwise keep spinning.

Just to be sure... not offensive... are you blind?
"We had some forecast at that time from where we thought both Xbox and PlayStation would be and that’s what we based our decision on."
I think some are missing the point that TitanFall wouldn't be what it is becoming if it wasn't an exclusive. I have no idea how much money Microsoft Added, but they helped the game develop on the consoles. It might have been a PC exclusive or other things. And it might have been a long time before it came out.
Garden Warfare actually looks pretty fun. I was watching it on Twitch last night and it's really smooth too.
Buying all those launch copies of Fifa might have been part of the deal. Both companies seem to be happy working together. As much as some people like to hate on Microsoft, they are unrivaled at working with just about everybody. (Cept maybe by the people that make zippers.)

Sony doesnt need to offer money, they aren't desperate. They've got enough hot games coming from their own studio. Microsoft has been publishing third party games, funding second party and paying for exclusivity up the yin yang for this launch. Especially in Japan, Sony isnt going to pay very much outside of DLC. They cant play the money game with Microsoft because they cant and they don't need to. |
Agree, but I never said Sony needed to offer anything. I'm saying they probably DIDNT, which is not that same (from Respawns perspective). Besides, a lot of this happened well before either system was released and we knew the sales numbers.
The respawn studio needed funding, and they made a deal with MS/EA. If EA wasnt willing to fund it on their own, might have never became the game it is now withough MS funding. So they entered into a win win contract. MS exclusive. Respawn funding (hiring devs, marketing, etc.) Im sure it's not cheap for a dev to jump into the COD competition fray.
EA wins in the short run, MS wins in the long run. MS wins by getting the mindshare of consumer, so now people associate Titanfall with XBOX. EA loses by not gaining mind share on Sony platforms, so Titanfall 2 won't be easy to sell.

Denying the obvious is equally boring.
The deal has its pros and cons
Strengths
-Having an exclusives deal lets Microsoft have its cake and eat it to. In other words it gets exclusives but doesn't have to dig down and spend to just acquire a studio. If Microsoft is thinking about exiting the gaming industry, then you would probably see more of these kinds of deals as opposed to an acquisition of studios.
-They get developers to work more effectively, bc they cci are just having to know one platform
Weaknesses
-It would probably make sense to repeat the agreement for a set number of years, but if the agreement lasts longer than say 3 years or so, then EA will face the risk of being stuck into an agreement with a failing platform. So the greater the length of time the agreement lasts, the more risk EA faces. So, EA will make Microsoft pay well for the increase in risk. If this lasts 4-5 years, then microsoft will be spending way more than they should, way more than the exclusives will be worth

Good thing I'm not denying anything here. Just wanted a quote from EA saying they expected the Xbox One to sell more.
An interview answer about projections for the "Xbox" and "Playstation" (which includes last gen and current gen consoles) is not that. Especially when, you know, they don't even actually say they expected the Xbox One to sell more in said quote LOL. But some people need to reach.
Again, they could have estimated this exact sales breakdown to happen and still done the deal based on whatever financial incentives MS provided. Which we have no idea about.
