So this competes with Unreal Engine 4 and Cryengine?

Anybody care to guess marketshare of these graphics engines?

Not an engine, this is a level above even that. This is how the hardware talks to the software. The Unreal engine USES DirectX.

Oh. Learn something new all the time. Damn good job on MS cornering the market here.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Yeah, I don't really understand it exactly lol. But Xbox actually was named for 'DirectXbox' - trippy!

Basically, Microsoft wanted a way to standardize the way different parts of the PC communicate. The CPU and GPU specifically. The wide variety of configurations possible on PC were causing problems and some sort of standard was necessary. DirectX was created to create that standard.

Glad to see so many people happy about this. This is awesome for the likes of gamers.

DirectX 12 exclusive to Windows 9 on PC. You heard it here first!

Kidding.

You are actually correct.  They confirmed that a while ago.  While sometimes things change, this one seems to be true.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Microsoft will have a hard time cornering the market with DirectX when it is probaly considering whether or not to dump the Xbox, and Windows PCs are declining, anyway.

Man I hope Win9 lives up to the Windows cycle and has rapid adoption if they are making this exclusive. Otherwise adoption will be really slow like 10/11 were.

I wonder if this is 11.3 or 12? Hopefully it's 11.3, I want this update to come to Xbox One, and I doubt 12 will come to Xbox One, if past DirectX generations are any indication 12 will be exclusive to Radeon Rx 300 series and GeForce 800 series GPU's.

I was thinking it was DX 12, but I don't think they are ready to talk about Windows 9.  Windows 9 will be a big change that breaks some legacy support.  In similary ways to how DirectX 10, broke from the DX9's.

So I am with you thinking it's like DirectX 11.3 or 11.2C or something like that.  Hopefully, some will be supported by the Xbox One too.  So it improved and streamlines their software.  (Like how the 360's looks better than most DX 9 applicaitons.)

Probably DX12, we've had DX11 since late 2009! DirectX 10 was only available since 2006, 3 years till DX11 showed.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine
