Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft to Reveal Next DirectX Platform GDC

The last major version of Microsoft’s graphics platform DirectX 11 was announced about 6 years back. Since then the desktop graphics API development has stagnated. During this time, AMD has developed their own set of APIs called Mantle. OpenGL/OpenCL has come a long way since then. Finally, Microsoft is making some announcement about their next generation DirectX platform at Game Developers Conference in March. Microsoft is promising better tools that will allow developers to squeeze every last drop of performance out of your PC, tablet, phone and console. Find the session info below.

DirectX: Evolving Microsoft’s Graphics Platform

For nearly 20 years, DirectX has been the platform used by game developers to create the fastest, most visually impressive games on the planet.

However, you asked us to do more. You asked us to bring you even closer to the metal and to do so on an unparalleled assortment of hardware. You also asked us for better tools so that you can squeeze every last drop of performance out of your PC, tablet, phone and console.

Come learn our plans to deliver.

DirectX: Direct3D Futures

Come learn how future changes to Direct3D will enable next generation games to run faster than ever before!

In this session we will discuss future improvements in Direct3D that will allow developers an unprecedented level of hardware control and reduced CPU rendering overhead across a broad ecosystem of hardware.

If you use cutting-edge 3D graphics in your games, middleware, or engines and want to efficiently build rich and immersive visuals, you don’t want to miss this talk.

DirectX 12 exclusive to Windows 9 on PC. You heard it here first!

Kidding.

Sweet! The more standardized PC gaming developing tools get, the better. I'm thinking of going back to PC soon. Well, as soon as my internet get better :)

Awwwww yisssssssss

Sweet

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Not an engine, this is a level above even that. This is how the hardware talks to the software. The Unreal engine USES DirectX.
