Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft says Xbox One price cuts are not out of desperation

That seems at odds with their pricing then.  We all know Microsoft is a massive company and could could billions on Xbox over course of a generation and still be well into the black overall.  A $499 system is not a strategy to achieve market share, especially when most reports indicate they make a small profit on each system. A $399 would show desire for market share, a $299 would show that is their only concern.  I think there is pressure on the division now to not be a loss leader or they would have adjusted pricing before launch.

All these rumors about splitting probably aren't far from truth if they start losing money. They are trying to reach a more sustainable model (Sony is too, Nintendo always played like that but they chose to use weak consoles instead of simply doing better hardware projects like the others).

Anyway, I don't expect a price cut before E3, they will wait for the games. I believe the UK bundle is a test to see if it will solve the problem. If it doesn't impact sales, it's better to stay as it is and make a profit than simply throwing money for nothing.

Online on PS4 costs money because its so expensive ROFL. Even tho they just want to have control over a games online to shut it down and force people to migrate to the next installment of a series.
Thats also the reason why they and most console devs decided to NOT have player hosted servers (like on PC) on purpose.
Player hosted servers for everyone/people playing with friends only and official servers for people that want tournaments etc would have made the online fee an obvious lie. They even said that one of their biggest mistakes last gen was to not have an online fee.

So what?

People say alot of things ;)

Eh.... So they are supposed to pay to keep servers online for games that are no longer making money indefinetly? Somebody did not go to Business 101 lol

Somebody did not go to school at all?

Ask someone to read bold for you please :)

Player hosted servers are very unreliable. Point invalid

How so? Never had problems with them (I avoid people with 55k modems!) especially irrelevant when you play with friends only. Again keep the fee for people that want official servers. Everyone else does not need them especially when playing with friends only.

I play every game on player hosted servers I cannot recall the last time I played on official servers. I have no problems at all and if something does not work its on PC and because someone has a firewall issue thats non existing on consoles.

Point more than valid.

Blacklight on PS4 uses User hosted servers and it is pretty annoying. Point invalid, either way you have got to pay for it anyway

Well, with 360 they had a hold over the US and UK. However, they lost their hold over the UK market with the X1 which is why you see the price cut there. They still sell well in the US so no need to cut prices there. Are they desperate to increase sales in the UK? Abso-fuckin-lutely. Anyone saying otherwise is clueless.

Any price cut 3 to 4 months after launch does indeed scream desperation. But a price cut in one country doesnt scream as much desperation as a price cut across the board.

its techinically not just one country though, you can get the titanfall bundle for the same price as the X1 standalone thats like getting a 60$ price cut if you want that one game.  it does screem desperation when your willing to sell the system and your best game for the price of just the system especially only 3 months into the systems lifespan.

I can't buy an Xbox One until Canadians get access to the same applications that Americans and British people get. If this is an all-in-one machine and I can't play NFL fantasy football or use Hulu here then I'm not getting my money's worth. Even if it were $399 it is still a gimped machine due to my country's entertainment laws. This console was made for their two big markets and nothing more and Microsoft doesn't want to lose those territories to Sony.

At this rate, Sony is assured of a 50/50 split in both territories when it's all said and done and that's a win for them since the 360 dominated the PS3 during the last console war.

I think it's a sign of desperation when you have to pack in a voucher for the game that you thought people were going to buy the console for months in advance only to find out people would rather play it on the 360 or PC than buy the Xbox One. I expect a sales spike and and then back to their usual mediocre sales.

Its all out of desperation. They don't like losing to Sony and they have to prove to EA that Titanfall is worth keeping exclusive. That is not going to happen. EA has already seen Sony's sales.

They can really do what they want. I think if they really were desperate they would lop $100 or so off. This just seems like sport.

But I'm sure it's welcome news to people that want a console.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

x360 wasnt any kind of failure, and xbo is doing better. Its not like the ps4, but the numbers are not as dire as some make it out to be. It will get better as the price drops, but I think it will be a better turn out if/when the kinect is dropped. its not propelling the system at all at this point, its impairing it.

It launched better, much much better than the 360. But it has quickly dropped off and is now selling slower than the 360 was.

Xbox One 2014 sales: 459,685 (as of 2/22/14)

360 January + February 2006: 849,155

Now the Xbox One has a week left to go in February, but unless it sells nearly 400,000 units in a week it's going to pretty far behind.

Oh, and before anyone says that it's just because the 360 was available in more markets.

Xbox One 2014 sales (US): 285,709

360 J+F 2006 (US): 391,778

Even in it's home market the Xbox One isn't doing aswell as the 360 did.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

If they were desperate Xbox One would be cheaper than PS4 by now or they would of removed Kinect possibly. The pricecut in the UK is probably to make sure we pay a fairer price, we are always ripped off anyway.

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Seriously no one has take in to consideration that the price in the UK was ludicrous, even more the value of the British pound has increased considerably in recent months.
Yes Microsoft did this to get bigger sale but IMO they would not have if the British pound haven't raise.
And for reference they did the same in 2007 with the price of the 360 in Canada when the value of the Canadian dollar exceeded the U.S. dollar
