It´s interesting. Most users here do not seem to understand how the market works and how to interpretate the sales patterns and tendencies.

We all know that home consoles are not strong in Japan as portables, and that console sales are lower and lower for quite some time. That said, 500k for a 2-day launch is just unrealistic. 

I´m not an specialist or an economist but some things are just pretty obvious.

Right, so why not talk about how the WiiU did and still is doing horribly around the world? You insult the Vita but talk nothing of the WiiU? Talk about bias!

Even if there is a huge drop next week, the PS4 will definitely pick up. The Vita had the 3DS as its competition. The 3DS already had a strong line up of games and a strong base when the Vita launched and on top of that, there was a price cut around that time. The PS4 doesn't have a competitor like the 3DS so the same rules don't apply. In addition to that, Sony had that ridiculous memory card model which scared away a lot of its potential customers.

Also remember FF14/FF15/KH3 and almost all multiplats are going to be releasing on the PS4. If that doesn't help sales, then nothing will.

If you predicted for the whole first week, you may be right.

How much will be the second shippiment? I hold to the assumption that sony saved for japan launch. So take 1.5M produced from the beginning of the year take what was airshipped for christmas, take out what have been sold YTD and we have the allocation.

Assuming Sony knew the demand in Japan it's quite possible they didn't want to overstock and phased stock for 2 weeks, so maybe we could see a really strong second week.

The PS4 seems to reenergize the console market in Japan. Great opening and only bested by the PS2.

The Wii technically sold a couple of K's more, but that debuted in the holiday season. The PS4 could have done 500K if this was november. So second best console launch in Japan.

Wait are you telling me that ps2 did 600k in two days?! or you were talking about first week sales?

I think that will be true globally. PS4 won't outsell PS3 by much, if at all. Partly because generation 8 won't be as long as 7, and partly because there will be negative over all growth in console sales. For the Japan situation is will be in the Loooong run. PS3 took until 17 Dec 2006 to get to 320K in Japan (5 weeks). So PS3 will have a lot of catching up to do. I suspect PS4 will stay ahead of PS3 pace in Japan for a couple of years.
