Do we know anything about what he would do?

That isnt what you meant and that isnt what it means.

You were inferring that the rumours (and they are only rumours) of him wanting to get rid of xbox should he become the boss of Microsoft will now surely happen.

So let me get this logic straight.

Ballmer, knowing Elop would get rid off Xbox, puts the guy in the frame to run xbox, before xbox one is even launched.  So they spend billions developing and releasing a new console knowing the new boss of xbox would spin it off?

Genius!

All i see are assumptions on your part. You shouldn't fill in what people might be thinking, it's counterproductive, especially in discussions forums like this one.  (1)

And what does getting rid of Xbox mean in your vision anyways? Are you picturing it like someone selling stuff on e-Bay or what?  (2)

So you ignore my very salient points and become all sarcastic...

1. whatever you say.

2. for someone that get all uppity at me for being patronising and having a "tone".... you are do a good job.  Dont talk to me like I'm an idiot pal.

You're forgetting about option;

3. You could just NOT reply to my comment when you're not ready to have a discussion, in which you've appointed yourself to being right beforehand. Saves us both the trouble. Don't you agree?

Dude.... you could have just explained what the "one thing" this news could "only mean" was from the beginning. You got all Socratic about it, and it really looked like you were backpedalling because you didn't want to give a solid answer. YOU are the one saying definitive sounding things on the forum and then getting defensive and weird when someone asked what you meant.

"You could have just not replied when you're not ready to have a discussion" - seriously?

You could have not said "This could only mean one thing!" when you weren't prepared to say what you meant.

Sheesh.

first he is not in charge of the Xbox division he is in charge to the hardware division... which includes the Xbox.... huge difference.... second he still wouldn't have any power of decision on whether Xbox should go or not... he might have leverage but won't be the one making the decision and the true head of the Xbox division will be the one making the report and assessment with elop putting in his recommendation on top.... personally I have zero worries.... and no elop didn't destroy nokia... sure things might have been done better in some cases.... but it would have been way worst if it had stayed the course it was on....

BTW that news is not news... we've known that possibility since the Nokia phone buy out was announced for people that really follow MS business news....

So a guy who wants Xbox gone is going to report out to his bosses all the good things its been doing??? LOL   Reality is it will probably be the other way around.

you know you can make graphs or pie charts to make your point about a product and thats what i expect from Elop is alot of look how bad we're doing lets sell it. You did make me laugh tho almost spit out my drink. thanks

he won't be the one reporting.... the reports are done by the head of the xbox division even to his boss or better yet to the CEO....

he won't be the one making the pie charts..... once again he would be the head of the hardware division.....

like if you work for a multinational at a local production plant.... the boss of the local plant is not the one doing the reporting on production at that location.... the head of production is... he merrely does analyzis of what report he gets and might put his own twist to it.... but I don't see any threat so far.... he'd have way better things to do in his new position than work hard on destroying the XB brand to sell it off.... cause it ain't the surface or phone division that makes cash much.... so unless he wants to show red quarter earnings every time he can go ahead and axe it.... he is the one that would be blamed for the hardware division failure.... so unless he magically can get 25% marketshare with the WP and surface I don't see him do anything radical against XB.... or maybe if he sells a lot of KB/mouse bundles to OEMs lol

So let me get this straight.

You expect a grown up, highly paid senior manager, with some degree of intelligence and integrity to sabotage a division... simply to make a point?

Awesome.

By the way, can you or anyone link me to anythig that shows he actually ever said or intimated he wanted rid of xbox if he became CEO?  of course you cant, he never has.

^ that

and once again as the head of the HARDWARE DIVISION he has neither the mean nor the reason to axe the XBox division.... the decision is not his to make and unless he wants his division to look the worst in the MS portfolio he has no reasons to do so.....

Why are you letting this get to you? He replied to me and i tested showed him that everything he's saying are assumptions, something you seem to be doing as well. So post on topic and don't butt in as if you're a part of the discussion.

What a weird way to reframe the situation. We're all part of the discussion - this is a public forum, not 'Somini can tell people not to talk to him or comment on what he says' land.

If people 'shouldn't respond to you or ask you what you mean,' then you shouldn't post in the forum. If that's your official position, YOU are the one in error, not people who ask what you mean or feel like responding to you. But I'll make a point to completely ignore you in the future because you're obviously a contentious person and I see little value in trying to reason with people like that.

I'm not sure what your problem is!!

I commented on the topic and he asked something to which i gave an answer, multiple times. It's not my fault you're not happy with it. If you don't like my answer or the way i'm discussing, then please refrain from replying to me at all times.
