I still think the PS3 has a chance to reach 100 million lifetime.

If we look at the PS2 and compare with its lifetime, then the PS3 would have 3 more year on the market or so. If I am correct?

But the PS2 was so much cheaper than the PS3 when it launched. I believe it cost $149 when the PS3 launched. That's 1/4 the cost of the PS3. That helped the PS2's sales. The PS4 has launched already with a much lower price tag than the PS3, and the PS3 is not even half the price of the PS4 yet. Also Sony has said they will offer past PS games on the PS4 so that will also go against the PS3's sales.

Plus the PS2 had incredibly unreliable hardware so I assume many of those units sold later were replacements especially cause it was so cheap.

right i have 3 PS2

Low probabilities at current prices and sales, but it's still too early to tell, at lower prices and in expanding markets in the rest of the world they could still have long legs.

In the US yes but Worldwide No

The PS3 will get awfully damn close by the time Sony pulls the plug on that console. I still think the odds are against it but even against unlikely odds there can be success.

I think the PS3 will do it. Not so sure about 360. PS3 possibly 100-105 million and 360 possibly around 90 million. Worth noting that Koller said the PS3 has 2, 3, 4+ years left in it. If they have 4+ years left, and assuming PS3 shipment will be at 83 mil at the end of this FY or so (it was 80 million as of Nov 2nd, 2013) and if they average 5 million shipments per year, starting with FY 2014, then they will reach 100+ million and pass the Wii.

They both need to drop the price to $149/EU149 and PS3 needs to drop the price in JP to 19,995Y this Fall though. And then to $129/EU119/14,995Y in Fall 2015 to sell in emerging markets and to poorer population. I think they are waiting until E3 to drop the price, the ps3 super slim and the x360 slim can't cost more than $130 to make and manufacture...

Neither are doing it and were never going to. Some silly predictions of longevity have prevailed here over the last few years.

Quite. I think you're one of the few, along with myself, that believed the 7th gen would crash as fast and hard as it currently is.

The PS3 and 360 will be hard pressed to sell much more than 20 million more between them, in my opinion. The PS3 would need to maintain a course not too far behind the PS2 in longevity and market presence in order to reach 100 million since the weekly numbers are plummeting so badly, it could fall below 2.5 million next year at this rate and would need another decade or so to reach 100 million. This simply won't happen with it continuing on the 60-70% down yoy path, there's just no way.

The market has changed a lot in later years and the PS3 will never become a PS2 and extend its life 5-6 years or more into the next generation.

PS3 missed it's chance at this goal as it failed to capitalize on price momentum. In 2012, when Sony released the SS model, it could have given them an outside chance at 100M in the end. However, alongside this model they didn't do a price drop but instead did a price increase from $249.99 to $269.99. Because of this error, PS3 will not and does not deserve to reach 100M sales.
